We moved from Hemet, Ca to Pacific, Wa with Allyrelocation. When the driver loaded my things from a storage unit, he told me that I either give him $600.00 cash or they would not load my things onto the truck. I gave him $600.00 cash. Before we even got out of CAlifornia, the owner of the company was calling us telling us the driver had stolen the $1200 in money orders that we had given him when he loaded (the rest of the money due at delivery). The owner wanted us to give him $1200 cash. We meant him at a McDonalds down the street from his business. We called the police and the police told us it was a civil matter. The owner threatened us and said we either give them an additional $1000 or he was taking our shipment back to the empty house we had just moved out of. The cops took me aside and said it was a scam, but there was nothing they could do.
We promised to give them the additional money at destination, which was to be delivered on July 26th. The entire trip in our car, they were calling us telling us that they were making no money on this shipment and kept threatening to take our goods to original empty house.
When we got here and were at our apartment waiting for them, we kept calling them and they kept telling us that they were right around the corner, down the street, delivering the next morning. We did not get our things until August 4th. WE had my granddaughters with us (age 4 and 5) and only three days clothing with us, no toys and no bedding. Nothing to cook with. We had to go and buy cheap stuff and some blow up mattresses to get by until we got the truck here.
Finally the truck arrived and they demanded the money before they would even let us look inside to determine if the truck was carrying our household goods, as it was not the truck that picked us up at origin. We gave them the money and they started to unload. The driver started bringing boxes off the truck that obviously been repacked and as they brought stuff off the truck things were falling in the truck and when they brought the items off they were broken. To make a long story short, when we finished marking off things on the Bill of Lading, there were 69 boxes missing and a whole lot of furniture and other household good. They even delivered empty boxes to us.
We have not heard a word from these people since the delivery and we have opened all the boxes. There was so much damage that we couldn't believe it. And by opening the boxes we have now determined that there is almost $20,000 worth of electronic equipment and furniture missing, along with personal items and pictures and other memorbila. If we add in the cost of the damaged stuff it will be approximately $28,000.
We got a call the other day from a woman in Arlington, VA who happened to open her boxes yesterday and found that she had three boxes of ours that were delivered to her. She called me to let me know that she had our boxes and she would mail them to us. But while talking to her, she has a huge dollar figure of items also missing from her shipment. She was loaded in San Diego in May, 2013 and we were loaded in July in Hemet, CA. She was delivered September 18, 2013. How did our three boxes get into her stuff?
I have a theiry, that they pray on single woman and take their shipments to their warehouse and go through the items and take what they want to sell and reseal the boxes. They probably have a fence on call and then they hire some yahoo to drive the loaded truck to destination.
Want to pursue these theives and make they pay up for our loss. They had everything we owned in that truck. We don't have a lot of money and my daughter works hard to support her two little girls. They kept one of the momory boxes (or shipped it elsewhere) from her daughters birth til now. Mostly keepsakes, but things we cannot replace. Their baby bracelet from the hospital where they were born. And picturtes I had framed of my family and a brother who has passed away. Things we cannot ever get back.
We paid the deposit by credit card, then the first $1200 with money orders + $600.00 cash, then the last $1500 with money orders.
