I was stupid enough to believe that Amazon.com would not take advantage of me with their offer of an Amazon Chase credit card. Amazon had been a very good company to me for many years. I stupidly accepted their offer of an Amazon Chase card and used one of their convenience checks to pay for a purchase and defer payment for several months. This looked to me like other relationships I have with other companies that do business via the internet, and it all works just fine.

This time when my Amazon Chase statement arrived, unlike their competitors, it did not mention the terms of the zero interest payoff time period. I called and the woman at Amazon Chase told me I would need to check the check stub for the date, and that it was not printed on the statement. She did give it to me over the phone when I asked. Why do I need to ask? Why do you suppose they do not disclose this on the statements the way Circuit City does? Why would you want to hide this, unless you were hoping I would forget to ask how long the financing was free? Again, color me trusting. This WAS a trust built over many years with Amazon. That trust is forever lost.

There was also a $169 transaction fee which I was told was disclosed in fine print somewhere on the convenience check. In the fine print. Somewhere. Okay, my bad, I trusted both Amazon and Chase not to try to trick me. I let my guard down because Amazon SEEMED like such a nice company.

I paid off my Amazon Chase card in full as of tomorrow. I wrote to Amazon to cancel my Amazon account. As of the weekend my Amazon Chase account will be closed. I think Amazon used me and got $169. If they will take advantage of a relationship they built with me to snooker me out of $169, what do you think will stop them from doing it to you?

Let the buyer beware!

Amazon has nothing to do with Chase credit account

1. "accepted their offer of an Amazon Chase card and used one of their convenience checks to pay for a purchase and defer payment for several months"

You don't defer payments with credit cards. You may get 0% interest, but you still have to pay your monthly payment.

2. " Amazon Chase statement arrived, unlike their competitors, it did not mention the terms of the zero interest payoff time period"

The cardmember agreement you received with your new card had all the terms and conditions in it. Did you happen to read that? It may time consuming to read it all, but I would rather read it then to be surprised when I get my statement.

3. "There was also a $169 transaction fee which I was told was disclosed in fine print somewhere"

Again, in the cardmember agreement. SURPRISE!

4. "I think Amazon used me and got $169."

Amazon has nothing to do with the transaction fee. That is part of the terms of the Chase credit card agreement.
