American Chimney Sweeps Ripoff misleading and fraudulent practices Villa Park Illinois

After seeing the investigative report on Channel 5 news on 4/8/04 at 10:00pm, I felt I needed to do something to warn other potential victims. American Chimney Sweeps came to preform a $55 chimney cleaning on September 25th 2003. Two technicians entered our home, one to do the actual cleaning and the other to preform their "complimentary" roof check. It was anything but "complimentary". By the time they were finished, our total bill was $1033.01.

The technician on the roof, cmae down several times to appraise me of the inept work the contractor who built the house had done. He reported that in the interest of cutting corners, they had not sealed the attic vents, the chase cap nor the flashing around the chimney, allowing water into the attic. In addition, the back wall of the fireplace had a hairline crack in it and I was told this was a potential fire hazard. Despite my gut feeling that something was not right, I let them proceed with the repairs. Ninety minutes later, $1033.01 worth of repair work was supposedly completed.

I have contacted the Building Inspector for our Village to either inspect the roof himself or point me to a reputable company to do the inspection. Upon completion of that inspection, I will decide what further action is necessary
