I purchased a motorcyle trailer, a unit that I pull with my motorcycle that carries additional cargo, in May of 2012 from America's Best Trailers. I paid $1645 by credit card and this was debited immediately by a company called EZ- Hitch.  I received my trailer in a timely fashion, in good condition.  There were a few quality issues with the trailer that I repaired myself--a micropore in the trailer wheel that allowed tire air to escape, and a lock-catch mechanism that failed.

My complaint is that Mr. Ellis or an agent of EZ hitch fraudulently rebilled my credit card 6 months later for the same amount--$1645.00.  Mr. Ellis did not return my calls.  I no longer live in the US and was out of the country when Mr. Ellis claimed to have received an order and or billed me for the trailer.

I immediately called my credit card company, which credited my account for the second $1645 debit.  I left the US after receving the credit as I reside in Costa Rica.  Mr. Ellis wrote me an incherent letter saying that Paypal, which I did not deal with, owed him $50,000 and I should collect my money from them.  If if this is to be believed, Mr. Ellis made his issues with Paypal my problem.  (He is saying in essence, they stole from me, so I am going to steal from you).

Several days later, the credit card company mailed notice that they were rescinding the cedit as Mr. Ellis produced "documents" in support of the second billing.  I was unable to read my US mail until April or May of this year, when I learned that my account had been recharged for this sale and that the credit was rescinded.  The credit card company informed me that technically (by their definition) this was not credit card fraud becuase I had a prior relationship with the company, namely the one and only purchase of the trailer.

I continued my complaint against Mr. Ellis and my credit card company until finally the credit card company relented and issued me a credit for the $1645.  I have been a customer in good standing of this credit card company since 1988. Hopefully they will not rescind it as they had in the past. It has taken me 7 months so far, and during this time Mr. Ellis or an agent of EZ, hitch has kept $1645 of my money under fraudulent pretexts.

Consumers should be aware that Mr. Ellis has 31 complaints filed against him with the Better Business Bureau under America's Best Trailers alone, 23 of which were considered serious.  He has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau and is not a member of that organization.
