Hello everyone, my name is Bart, I'm 19 years old and this is my Amway experience.

It all started when I was hanging out with my good friend and he mentioned that his cousin asked if it would be alright if I met with him to try some of his products and that he also had a "job" for me. Seeing no harm, I agreed and the next day I headed to my friend's house where his cousin was. We exchanged names and handshakes and then we proceeded to sit down at a diner table to talk. Now, before I go on, my close friend didn't know what his cousin was going to show us so we were both basically fresh to this presentation. After some small talk, the cousin (we'll call him Sam) began to dive into the STP (Showing the Plan). At the time, what he wrote on paper seemed interesting, talking about the potential income and whatnot. He also presented and handed us products to try which was XS energy drink and some vitamin supplements. He also gave me some more information about the company he worked with. After he left and once my friend and I left to go do whatever, I tried the XS and energy bar and thought they weren't bad but I really didn't take too much into consideration on what Sam told me about the business itself. I did however, keep in mind that he said by joining the business I could start by making 200-500 dollars a month and that he was going to call me in a week or so. So a week later he calls me and asks if I can attend an upcoming meeting and if I have any business attire. I went to the meeting and thought it was very interesting and I gotta admit, I was pretty excited and I wanted to join.

Well, to make a long story shorter...I joined the business, brought in like 5 close friends, attended many meetings, met other people in my uplines business, attended a major function, and even bought products. My start up cost was 140 dollars. That money, I was told was to pay for my start up kit and for my 4 websites. Only maybe 2 close friends actually signed on the business with the full 140, the rest did 60 to mainly get the websites. Oh and remember my friend I mentioned earlier, the cousin of my upline and sponsor? Well, he also signed on with me as my upline since he signed up first. None of my friends including me have made any actual money since we've been in the business. Sure I've received checks: 1 for 6 dollars, another for 38 dollars and the last for 50 dollars, but that money still doesn't exceed even my start up cost. Plus it was basically forced so that I would go on to the next bracket, I didn't do anything my upline just bought a bunch of random crap. To be honest my friends also haven't really done anything either except my one friend Neill who was ocassionally selling some products to his mom. And basically not really seeing any money from that anyway, he was probably getting 10-20 dollars for selling like 200+ dollars worth of Amway garbage.

The point behind my story is, whether or not Amway is legit, it's still a waste of time, money and it's a good way to alienate your friends and family. How bullsh*t is it to receive 7 dollars for slaving at the bottom of the pyramid while pushing 250-300 dollars worth of products. The only people who make any actual money or get rich off of it are the ones who do it by lying, stealing and selling all those motivational bullcrap to people. They're not rich from Amway, they're rich from BWW, the training and support system of Amway. Sure it's good to be motivated, postive and open minded in anything you do including business but their money is just blood money sucked dry from the people at the bottom who do the work and see little to none of the results. I'm too moral to get rich doing something that evil to good, honest people.

Now, my close friends and I don't even bother with the business anymore, we all just basically make fun of and talk sh*t about it. my sponsor Sam rarely talks to me, ocassionally he'll text me and try to get me to go to a meeting or an expo which I would gladly go just to have a good laugh. I also gave him my old laptop a while back because it had problems with it and he said he would have his dad take a look at and he has still not returned it. He's probably going to try and keep it as collateral for me owing him money for CD's, books, the function I went to and other Amway bullsh*t but f*k him. I owe him nothing for the simple fact that he lied to me saying that I would make all this money and that he would do all the work, all I needed to do was provide him prospects, which I sadly did. Another thing too is he asks me or anyone if I have a job which he only asks because then we would have money to spend on Amway products, get the f*** outta here. He's also stacking people I don't know in my leg which he himself said was illegal, wow he's really desperate. I know he doesn't make any money doing the business, he's been in it for years and he's so blind and in denial.

Other things to keep in mind:

The regular weekly meetings held at hotels by Amway are the same exact things every week only done by someone different. (Great, 6 dollars a week to hear the same s**t)

Even if you see a check from Amway, how do you know that you're making money, you still have expenses too (Driving, samples, CD's, books, functions, meetings, etc etc etc.)

Diamonds don't actually make 250,000 a year, I know this because I've been in my upline Diamonds home many times and he doesn't have anything in his house someone making a quarter of a million would have. Even if you were saving money you would still have enough to buy yourself some nice things with that much money. The only thing he has is a Lexus which probably at best cost 30,000 dollars which isn't anything.

IBOs when at the time of recruiting lie to prospects and don't even mention the name Amway (What are they ashamed of?)

You can see the frustration, anguish and sleepiness in downlines and crosslines eyes and you know that they work hard but see no results.

Amway products are overpriced and the wholesale discount you receive when you sign up isn't wholesale, it's more like 10% off which is still overpriced

Yea sure Amway is partners with many legit companies and stores but that doesn't give you legitamite credit, what do they care if you're exposed for your fraud, it still won't hurt their sales no matter what happens to you Amway.

All in all, if a stranger comes up to you and says you look familiar and tells you they work in eCommerce, run quickly. Amway is just a waste of time and money and it only leads to heartache, an empty pocket and lost friends. Even if you do get rich off this scam, you're no better than Bernie Madoff and that's just not worth it.

P.S. Amway CD's and books are fun to destroy and they go great flying out the window of your car. LULZ!

The other side of the story ...

AUTHOR: russellyblood - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, November 04, 2016

You may have failed in the Amway business, but there are plenty of people that are successful in this business. The Amway manufactured products are excellent. The starter kit and all products have a 90 day money back guarantee. The functions and motivational tools are optional and this is stated clearly in the documentation when you sign up. Many of the platinums and above profit from the motivational system, but this is no different from any other profession. If your job expected you to go to a conference and speak on stage, ... you would expect them to pay you as well.

I see you are much younger than I and I would guess that when you hit 45 years old after working the same job for 25 years, you will probably understand why so many people are working the Amway business. Qualified Amway Diamonds definitely make $250,00+above and this income is also stated in the most recent Amway financial documentation. Most likely your upline Diamond was not qualified if they were not showing that level of income. But even unqualified Diamonds at the Emerald level are still usually free from the 9 -5 daily job grind.

The latest Achieve magazine shows many new Diamonds, Emeralds, and hundreds of new platinums just in the last 12 months. So, the business works, but you chose to quit trying and that is why you failed. I am making money with the Amway business and I have never been afraid to say the word Amway. My parents achieved Diamond level in 1979 and they have never had to go back to work at a job, $750,000 home paid for in cash, no debt whatsoever, plenty of money in the bank, and a strong six figure income with the Amway business. With the experience that I have had, in my opinion, the Amway business is the best and most reliable MLM business in the industry.

You Proved That It Works

Are you aware that u just said it works and didnt realize it. 1 month u got a check. The next  month u got a better check and the next month it got better. You just gave up. If the numbers are rising then keep pushing. Thats the plan. Now the way u apply yourself is the outcome u get. Your friend wanna sell now and then to his mom a product here and there and no one else then thats him. He didnt put in the effort to sell therefore no check. U gotta work at your job to get a check right?  U didnt even mention if ur friends were spreading the info to others to build your team. Its not an easy thing to do. It takes years for active business owners to get where they are even if its at $1500 a month. Yall didnt even try. As for Sam that just meant you got with the wrong upliner. There are some like that  but not all. Get wit a team thats active and going somewhere. That was on yall. Amway not paying people all that money just for sitting on their asses with their hands out expecting money to fall out the sky. It takes money to make money. If it was that easy there would be no reccession. Everyone would do it. Take yourself serious.

I went through the same experience!

Great report Bart!  You shed some light on the company for me.  I went through the exact same process.  Actually I pretty much got harassed to goto the first meeting from what I thought was a good friend.  It took them 3 hours or business bullshit talk to finally tell me it was Amway.  And after I walked out and told them I was no longer insterested they still kept calling my cell and my home phone number for the next 3-4 months!!  AARGH!!  After 6 months, they stopped calling, I think they got the message.

Thanks for the info.

Amway

Sounds like amway hasn't changed much since I was in it 10 years ago, lol. My wife and I joined threw one of our close couples and were in it four 3-4- years, due to the promises and hype. We spent more than we ever made with the seminars the books the tapes and products every week. You are right about one thing you spend more than you ever make at the bottom. But if you didn't how would your upline get there megar little checks. I even had my upline do the plan at my house for my friends to get them to join and knowing they were lying about their income from the business. I did find out that the ones who made the money were the ones who put on the functions, like at the Georgia dome with 50 thousand people in attendance, at 100 dollars plus a piece. wHEN YOU BUY THEIR TAPES BOOKS ETC, THEN THEY MAKE A HUGE PROFIT, I guess as you say if you have no morals you can succeed in this business. My whole upline finally feel apart once they realized that they were not going any further than they had. If this is not a pyramide than its the next best thing. Just thought you would want to know.

You have eloquently and succinctly covered every angle of this scam.

If you were in Amway (or whatever the hell they're calling themselves nowadays) for long enough, then you probably know that the founders are d**k DeVos and Jay VanAndel.

These two are from the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. While I admire their philanthropy, imagine how much money these two must be making off this gig considering the following:

I graduated from GVSU. I took many of my classes at a campus that is named after d**k DeVos, because he put up a huge chunk of the money to build the beautiful structures that comprise the campus.

My daughter received surgery at DeVos Children's Hospital.

Across the street from the hospital is the VanAndel Research Institute (they do medical research, I'm pretty sure they're not developing energy drinks there).

The largest sports/entertainment venue in the area is the VanAndel Arena. My graduation ceremony was held there, as was a kickass Rush concert.

Fine arts (operas and what not) are usually conducted in DeVos hall.

The finest hotel in town is the Amway Grand Plaza.

Basically, about half of the buildings in downtown Grand Rapids have either "DeVos,"  "VanAndel," or "Amway" in the name. Without the money these guys pump into the local economy, Grand Rapids would look alot like Detroit.

Again, I admire their philanthropy. But sometimes I think it may just be a means to keep local officials off their backs. The last I heard, they had a combined net worth of roughly 6 billion dollars.

I've studied Amway for many years, after my brother-in-law tried to sell me on it during my first year of law school. I could tell right away that it was a scam.

VanAndel and DeVos were childhood chums who, about fifty years ago, developed what was basically a granola bar. They were run of the mill snake oil salesmen, and marketed their product as a cure-all. This venture was somewhat successful at first.

However, when the FDA stepped in and told them that they had to stop making false claims about the health benefits of their treats, they devised a new plan: get other people to sell the product and "encourage" them to tout the health benefits that the FDA already said were a no-no.

These recruits would be independent contractors so as to shield VanAndel and DeVos from any liability. To make the prospect more attractive, these independent contractors were allowed to recruit other independent contractors and share in the commissions. Nowadays, people who are not a part of this enterprise, refer to this as a pyramid scheme.

This paradigm began lining the pockets of our Dutch friends in a BIG way. So they initially expanded the operation to other health and beauty products, and the program has evolved to where, nowadays, you can buy pretty much anything through Amway.

In the 1970s, a federal court declared that Amway was an illegal pyramid scheme. They have gottten around this ruling by getting rid of "front end loading" (read up on it, it's too complicated to get into here).

The gist of the ruling was that, if less than 70% of sales were not made to non-Amway distributors, the operation is illegal. This is still the standard today.

However, most who have analyzed Amway product flow will tell you that FAR more than 70% of end consumers ARE Amway distributors, meaning that the vast majority of Amway sales are made to IBOs, not to people outside of the organization.

So, technically, Amway is likely still in violation of the law, but its just too hard to track effectively, and believe me, these guys have some GOOD lawyers.

Long story short: the OP is right on the money, and I'm glad he figured this out before he got in too deep. Amway makes its money from its own distributors. Distributors who are making money are not profiting from the sale of Amway products, they're making money off the motivational materials!

And, in closing, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER follow the advice of Robert Kiyosaki. He's more full of s**t than a KOA outhouse.

Best regards!
