Yahoo Autos advertised 1995 Ferrari F355 for sale by Andrew Nelson for $14,500. Contacted seller on 7/15/2005 for information regarding location of vehicle. On 7/15/2005 received the following email from andrew_nelson@verizonmail.com:

Thank you for your interest regarding my car. Here are the details that you must know about this deal. Right now I am in England and the car is here with me. I am trying to make a new life here because my wife wants to be closer to her family. The car is presenting in a very good condition, accident free, no scratches, no need for additional repairs. It comes with all the documents needed for registration, it has a clear title issued in U.S. and it can be anytime registered into your name without a problem. The buy it now price is US$ 14,500 and if you agree with it we can start to complete the transaction. You will not have to pay for customs or any additional taxes because the car is an U.S. product registered in U.S. I realize that is a cheap price for such a product but my special situation makes me do things that I wouldn't do in normal circumstances and believe me it is not easy at all for me to sell a thing which was one of my dreams during last years. I've wanted to register the car here and keep it for me. Unfortunately import taxes and European regulations made me change my mind since I have to pay a lot of money. Now I am trying to sell it back to U.S. for such a low price because next week I have a deadline term for paying those taxes. If you are serious interested please let me know as soon as possible so we can move forward with this deal. Hope to hear from you soon!

On 7/18/2005 received the following email from andrew_nelson@verizonmail.com:

I made a couple of phone calls and I decided that the best and the fastest way I can ship it is using Lufthansa Air Cargo and it will take between 5 and 10 days to arrive at your door. You have nothing to worry about the shipping fees because I will take care of everything. Once with the car you will receive the title signed by me, the keys, owner manual, the original documentation and all that you need to register the car. The financial part of this transaction will be managed by SquareTrade Center in collaboration with Yahoo Autos. They are acting like a third party in this deal. You will have the Buyer Protection Program that means that nobody besides Square Trade Center will have access to your funds until you will get your car. I have a Purchase Protection Account for US$ 20,000 and if you will not receive the car as I described to you, SquareTrade will refund you the whole amount which you paid me (100 %). But I assure you that is not the case, because I can guarantee for my car.

If you decide to move forward with this deal please email me back with your details (full name and shipping address) so I can file a case at SquareTrade Center and they will contact you with more details and instructions. I am waiting for your email as soon as possible so we can move forward with this deal.

The 1995 Ferrari, Square Trade center and Andrew Nelson are all fraudulent !

New twist on old scam

AUTHOR: Jason - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 19, 2005

Congratulations for not falling for it.

I'm guessing they pointed you to a site like http://www.transaction78978632-ebay.com/.

Note that there is a company at www.squaretrade.com that provides dispute resolution to Ebayers, and you see their logo on many auctions, but they don't handle money at all. This scam is just attempting to use a "known" name with a scam.

Whois Info for the above named site shows it might be domestic to the US where this scam is being run.

Provide the information, including e-mail headers to Ebay if they were ever involved or mentioned anywhere in any of the correspondence.
