I had contracted with USA moving, who in turn, without my knowledge, contracted my move with 1st Choice Moving and Storage.  I was moving from Arizona to Texas and didn't even have that much to move.  The agent I went through told me over the phone that it was such a small move he would make it an estimate on the number of boxes.  So, once I got things packed, I actually only wrote on two small to medium size boxes, JB and DVD so I could remember where these itmes were.  When the moving company came, it was dark and a very hard place to get to.  I tried to tell the movers to wait until morning so I could see everything.  No, why do that?  Not sure if they even understood as they spoke very little English.

When they were unloading the boxes, I noticed the truck was dark, I asked if I could go inside with a flashlight to make sure everything was out and was told no. I was given no time to go over every box, they loaded them on top of one another and I did not have the strength to pull them off on another or turn them around to look for markings. And the movers knew this. I tried to explain that the number of boxed on the invoice was only an estimate and there could be a couple more, but again, language barrier. I went through the claims process with Anthem and explained the boxes missing were all of my jewlery (hence JB) and a box of over 60 DVD's. The jewlery was items I had been given or purchased over a 40 year time line, so, no I did not have reciepts. All I got from Anthem was a Gee, we're sorry but we have no responsibility letter. Thanks, that was actually no big surprise.  All I know is somewhere out there someone has my jewlery and is wearing it, and to me, that's just not right and should feel just a twinge of guilt everytime they put something on, this was stuff my grandmother gave me, things my son gave me, and Anthem claims they checked everywhere?  Really?  Like I'm going to belive that story.

Please do not make this into any means of me being mean or seeking revenge.  I just don't want what happened to me happen to anyone else. I have to try to have faith that there are still honest people out there who will do the right thing. As far a my comment on the language barrier, it was the truth, pure and simple. I totally admit I made mistakes in picking the moving company, did not know I would have to deal with Anthem, actually tipped the movers because I did not think they made much money, and yes, I should have insisted on going inside the truck to check myself and I should have insisted they waited until morning to unload so I could actually see everything. Please to those of you out there planning a move, if at all possible, move everything yourself. You may save some heartache, gain some back pain, but your memories will at least be with you.

When you hire a moving company there are a few things you need to know:

When the driver is ready to deliver your shipment....they arrange a drop off time and if you are not available then they are forced to put your items in storage at added fees of storage & re-delivery due to delivery schedules they have to keep.

Please understand also you should never send valuables in a moving truck nor should you send critical documents or medications. This is due to the time it generally takes to move these items to their final destination. Also, moving any valuables jewelry, money, documents etc...is irresponsible on the part of the shipper (person hiring moving company). These are also item most companies have you sign a release for that they say are items they do not ship.

Please understand when you purchase moving services you shipment coverage is very limited and you should consider moving insurance. Anthem is not fault for doing their job as set out to them by the DOT.
