My name is John and worked for the state government of California for more than 26 years. I witnessed how state of California Real Estate Department Deputy Senior Commissioner Anthony Vo harassed consumer who filed complaint more than one and half years ago. I had the day off and visited my friend Mary (fake name to protect the privacy of my friend) and witnessed the entire conversation

On September 21, 2010 around 3:30 PM Anthony Vo called Mary concerning the complaint she filed one and years ago against a real estate agent Mali in Newport Beach. Basically, Mali had an appointment with May in from of the gated community in Newport Beach. Mary presented the offer as a buyer to Mali. Mali dissatisfied with the offer from Mary and threw the offer to the ground and toward Mary. Mary felt extremely humiliated. Few days later, Mary decided to file a complaint against Mali for failing to present the offer to the seller and wrote to the state of California Department of Real Estate

In stead of focus on the complaint issue, Vo used very commanding tone and kept on asking Mary to be cooperative with her, otherwise, the complaint case will not go forward. Mary authorized Vo to talk to her husband Bill (fake name as well) because her English language barrier. Bill is a real estate broker and never engage in any real estate transaction at all even though I think Bill has abundant knowledge in real estate

Vo did not even discuss the matter of complaint. In stead, she kept on questioning Bills knowledge on real estate law and his experience in real estate transaction. Vo insisted Bill to be cooperative with her. Eventually, Bill fought back and questioned Vos impartiality. Bill asked Vo three questions a. Can a real estate broker permitted by law not to engage real estate transaction? B. Can a broker maintain only the license and still have good knowledge on real estate law? C. Can an un- practicing broker still maintain good common sense? Vo did not even provided the her reply

The entire conversation was on the speaker phone. Vo kept on asking Bill to be cooperative with her (with very harassing tone), otherwise, they will not proceed the complaint. For whatever reason, Vo hung up the phone and called back few minutes later and accused Bill to hang up on her. Vo insisted to talk to Mary (and still harassed Mary if she was not cooperative, the case will not proceed). Mary was agitated and told Vo why she was not discuss the case and skirted the issue around. Then Vos colleague picked up the phone and accused Bill to yell at his colleague

Bill stated to Vos colleague that he was only voiced his concern over the way that Vo handled the case. After few minutes discussion, Vos colleague told Bill that the case is closed because the lack of evidence

No wonder the public has such low positive perception toward real estate professional. Vo, my colleague know you very well and you always treat consumers like a dirt. I will make sure governor candidate Whitman know your name personally. Vo, you are the shame of state worker of California. And I will personally make sure you are on the list of the 40,000 workers that Whitman will lay off once she is elected. Mary might have English language barrier, but my English is very fluent and practical to use

Additionally, I recommend the Department of Real Estate to abolish the worker from using malicious trapping techniques as Anthony Vo applied. Worker like Anthony Vo seems to forget people like Mary and Bill pay taxes so Vo can have a job. And her primary mission is to protect consumer and not to harass them and make them not to voice concern over unethical behavior of real estate professional
