This is a MINOR ripoff, it isn't exactly fraud or screwing the customer totally, but it does leave an awfully bad taste in my mouth.

My cw1200 washer/dryer manufactured by "edgestar" (a subsidiary of Richlund ventures) decided to stop drying after less than 2 years of use for a single person. There is only a 90 day warranty. I find that the vendor is no longer selling this device now. So I contact my vendor "compactappliance.com" (a subsidiary of Richland ventures) to try to find a local (Chicago-based) repairman that I can pay to work on the device. They tell me that since they are a vendor and not the manufacturer, that they cannot help me. So I contact edgestar (a subsidiary of Richland Ventures) and the erstwhile manufacturer of the discontinued device. No luck there. I googled around a bit and I see that innovativewashing.com is still selling the device (ohh and suprise suprise, who owns them but Richlund Ventures). They also seem to not know of anyone who can service it. Oh well, Live and learn. I must give credit where credit is due though, I purchased a Danby device through compactappliance.com and am happy with it (of course, it has not needed service). Buyer Beware though on their vertical market items, if a company has to keep coming up with subsidiaries with new names to stay in business, it is a sure sign of a problem.

Response to former "Ex-Employee" regarding Richlund Ventures

AUTHOR: B. Ford - Service Manager - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 03, 2008

This is a separate response to ex-employee Know What You Mean regarding Richlund Ventures being the parent company of several different corporate entities including Edgestar. This is not something that Richlund Ventures is trying to keep from the public consciousness. In fact, Richlund Ventures has a public website (www.RichlundVentures.com) that may be visited at anytime that clearly lists the companies associated with Richlund Ventures, Inc. Edgestar products are sold with a 90 day labor 1 year parts warranty which is clearly listed at the time of purchase. I do not believe it would be accurate to say that Richlund Ventures is trying to conceal the fact that Edgestar is part of it's corporate family or that the terms of the Edgestar service warranty are not clearly listed on the retail sites so customers may make an informed decision prior to their purchase. Should anyone need further clarification regarding these topics they may contact me directly at the following email address: bford@RichlundVentures.com Thank you, B. Ford Service Manager.

Repsonse to Jeffab - Edgestar Combo issue

AUTHOR: B. Ford - Service Manager - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, December 03, 2008

I can understand your frustration related to the servicing of your Edgestar combo unit. The European factory that manufactured these units for Edgestar went out of business over a year ago at which time we had to discontinue offering these units to the public. We do keep an inventory of parts on hand so I would suggest having a local service company in your area diagnose the unit and then contact the Edgestar service department once you know exactly which part is needed. We will search our parts inventory at that time and offer you the replacement part at a fair market price since your unit is no longer covered under warranty due to the amount of time that has elapsed since purchase. When contacting local service techs I would suggest informing them that you have a European style washer/dryer combo unit as they may not be familiar with the Edgestar brand since we have not been able to offer these units for quite some time. Our contact number: (866) 319-5473, M-F, 8am to 5pm CST. Thank you, B. Ford Service Manager Richlund Ventures, Inc.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Its more than just subsidaries

AUTHOR: Know What You Mean - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, November 11, 2008

I know someone that used to work for this company (a close personal freind). I can tell you this, all the company names you mention are all under one umbrella (Richlund Ventures) they use multiple names to market the same product. While i worked there i noticed they had no Quality checks with the factories in China and further more the cost of the units sold are marked upped 150%. as for waranty program its only 90 days so that they can push this to local repairman at ur cost. additionally most products are replicated from other major distributors such as Danby and Avanti essentially they have no Product Development. The reason the danby product hasnt failed its because they distribute it and they do not play any role in the manufacturing of Danby and Avanti products.
