"American Pharmaceutical Sales Association" claims to represent the pharmaceutical industry, but in fact does NOT. They use deceptive, misleading & completely falsified information to lure people into their programs. False statements include:

"Not having a 4-year degree will not be an obstacle to getting into pharmaceutical sales .

Our "20 person advisory board" represents world-wide pharmaceutical industry leaders. There is no such advisory board.

Company's certification gives a "400% better chance of securing a pharmaceutical sales career." They absolutely canNOT document this.

Company "represents and educates THOUSANDS of aspiring pharmaceutical. . .representatives." They've had approx. 20 verified clients as of 2/18/03. That's not even close to 'thousands' (numbers documented thru their PayPal account).

APSA post job openings on sites like careerbuilders.com and hotjobs.com. They identify themselves as "recruiters" that have been hired by a Pharmaceutical companies (the company names are never disclosed -how convenient) in different areas of the U.S. to fill positions. The next step is to have you click on their website. Once in their website they state " We represent, train, certify and place entry-level Pharmaceutical Sales representatives" but they never mention this "job opening" you had first started off reading about in the job search websites. Their goal is to get you to pay for their seminar and in the seminar the trainer states he is not there to hire you for any specific job (um, excuse me, but what about the ad placed on career builder that says :

"We are currently recruiting for ten leading Pharmaceutical companies and eight leading Medical Device manufacturers. APSA Certification is an industry recommended and endorsed "credential" - however is not mandatory to apply to our posted positions. Most positions will be filled by end of November '08. "

All he does in this seminar is talk about what are the tricks in interviewing to get A Pharma Sales job, what to wear, and tries to sell you a resume service, and a book on cd. He even has the odasity to mention that Pharmaceutical companies won't post their job opening on job search website so not to bother looking there not posting your resume there!

Do not be fooled by this Robert "Bobby" guy! He claims to be a trainer when in deed this company is all a one man show; he is the owner. There is no business address for APSA and the business address on record with the state is an apartment that is registered as his home! The business has been opened for about 5 years and in the seminar he makes statements of working for them for 10 ++ years and his website says "The APSA is the industry's longest running and most respected training partner association in North America"

Another statement that cannot be validated is that of them being "accredited" and in the seminar he even goes as far as saying some colleges with give you college credits for taking his seminar-
***This was my first eye opener- What college would give you credits for taking a 3 hours class that only teaches interview tricks to get hired into a Pharma job???? And about the "accreditation"- not a surprise to me to have found out the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Postsecondary Education does not have APSA in their database! (guess what= if you are accredited, you WILL be in their database!)

Both APSA and NAPSR are ripoffs. Don't waste your money

AUTHOR: Kim - (U.S.A.)

You do not need these organizations to help you get hired. There are posts on both of these organizations. Numerous people in the industry all commented they really do nothing for you, and that doing your own research, and networking, will get you hired. Both NAPSR and APSA are just after membership money.

Again, the pharma industry is HIGHLY competitive and there are hundrends of qualified, degreed candidates that apply for each position posted. The idea that somebody might be able to get hired with out a college degree is RIDICULOUS. Why would a pharma hire somebody without a degree, when there are hundreds of degreed candidates, some with B.A's, some with Masters, some even with a PHD. For the 1 person in a million that might get hired without a degree, don't bet on it. You also have a chance of winning the powerball too.

Most companies will not even consider you for an interview unless you have a degree with a favorable GPA. Don't forget the background check, driving record check, and credit check too, that is after you make it through 4-5 interviews.

Don't waste your money on APSA or NAPSR.

These Claims are false and were posted by a competitor

AUTHOR: Katie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 14, 2004

Consumers need to be aware that any competitor of any company/organization can post false claims hiding behind an alias. The above report is such a situation.

We are the longest running and most respected training organization in the Pharmaceutical industry. Over the years, companies have come up with similiar names and offerings to compete with us. Needless to say, some have resorted to defamation.

A 4 year degree is required by most Pharma companies...BUT NOT ALL companies.

Our Advisory Board does exist, now with over 40 industry executives.

We have over 3,000 active members...we are not even sure why they posted the false numbers they did.

In closing, just because another "association" (or company that has changed it's name quite a few times to hide) offers a poor product or service, does not mean that true, long standing organizations like us are not trustworthy.

Do not listen to any company that tells you you do not need a 4 year degree.

AUTHOR: Kim - (U.S.A.)

Pharmecutical sales is really tough to get into...Unless you have a minimum 4 year degree, stable work history with outstanding sales background, or speak a foreign language, it is really tough to get into. Right now unless you have pharm. sales experience, not many companies are interested.

Do not listen to any company that tells you you do not need a 4 year degree. In fact, some even prefer a Masters. Finish your degree and get into some type of sales, and better yet, take a foreign language and you might have a shot.
