Around the middle of July I began looking for a moving company to assist with my move. Zen Van Lines was referred by a moving locator service. I checked them out with the Better Business Bureau and discovered they had no marks against them. They were even listed as a satisfactory company.

August 12, 2008, Art of Zen Movers also doing business as Zen Van Lines was hired to move my furniture from a location in Sugar Hill, GA, to a location in Buford, GA. The agreement was that they would arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. to move my household goods at $99.00 per hour including tolls, mileage, fuel, standard valuation coverage, disassembly, reassembly, padded moving blankets and tape.

Nonetheless, much to my dismay, they hijacked my truck of goods, damaged and lost part of my belongings, did not reassemble anything they disassembled, did not properly pad my furniture, left what they finally returned in my garage, did not place my furniture inside the house, and extorted money from me to return of the hijacked goods. Additionally my cable modem was missing after the move and there was no one else involved in the move other than their crew. They did not honor their contract.

They arrived in an Enterprise rental truck to began work at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2008, and finished loading the truck with half of my household belongings at 4:30 p.m. Actual hours worked excluding breaks were 5 hours. They arrived at the destination location at 4:47 p.m. and then left for lunch. I was presented a bill for $1,319 when they returned from lunch at 5:50 p.m. I was outraged. I asked to speak to the manager and was refused. Every attempt I made to discuss the price was rejected. At 6:30 p.m. in spite of my concern for the over inflated price I opted to pay the bill and their driver refused my payment. He stated it took you too long to make up your mind and besides, you called the police.

I immediately sent an email later that evening in which no response was given. I also made several phone calls on Wednesday in which no response was given. And finally after their lack of response following numerous attempts at communication they left me no recourse but to contact the authorities. They finally agreed to an extorted amount of $1,950 for the simple return of my highjacked merchandise. They also stated that my belongings would be returned between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m Wednesday evening and that the heavy items would be placed inside at their various locations. Their driver did not show up until 7:05 p.m and the promise made to bring all heavy items inside subsequent to the extortion was breached. The job was finished at 9:05 p.m.

Notwithstanding, I was harassed, intimidated and threatened by their lead driver David. He even offered to bring my furniture into the house for an additional $100.00 under the table.

Total hours worked was seven which calculates in the amount $693.00 total plus taxes. I am now in the process of taking action against the company for a full refund for the extra amount charged.

Working with this company has been a nightmare and I caution everyone who is interested in moving to locate a more reputable company to hire.

Ms Rudison has no basis for a complaint. When we originally set up her relocation we gave her an estimated time of 6 to 8 hours to relocate her belongings with her having everything packed.
When we arrived to her home much of Ms. Rudison's belongings were unpacked she did although have her own boxes. My crew spent time helping her pack and also waiting on her as she packed.
I am sorry, but our clock starts when we arrive and if Ms. Rudison's unprepared home cost her more time then she is solely to blame. Ms. Rudison requested us not to pack and wrap certain items because she wanted to save time and money on materials.
We obliged but informed her that we would carry no liability on these items because of their lack of protection, to which she signed off on.
When we arrived at delivery my foreman estimated a total time for completion of the move at 11 hours. Ms. Rudison locked herself in her home and called the police when informed that if she didn't pay her bill we would have to return in our warehouse.
The police came and told Ms. Rudison that we had done nothing wrong, the charges were correct and she needed to pay her bill. After 2 hours of arguing before, during, and after the police came and went, Ms. Rudison still refused to pay so we made the decision to leave. When the truck was pulling off her street she yelled that she would pay. By this time I and an associate of mine had already talked to her twice, the police came and left, and we gave her two hours to pay.
We returned to our warehouse at approximately 9 pm. The following day I arrived into my office at about 10:30. I had numerous messages from Ms. Rudison, CBS News, and and idividual named Jeff Glaze threatening to destroy me and my company.
I talked to the news, explained to them the situation and they never called me again, saying: "this is no news story."
After speaking rather harshly to Jeff Glaze, he eventually pleaded with me to give her a break as she was short on cash and a single mom. I told him I would.
I was late coming to my office primarily because I was one truck short that morning because of Ms. Rudison's shipment occupying that truck. I had to rent a truck and was delayed on one of my other clients.
With Ms. Rudison's overnight fee, rental fee, and redelivery fee, her billed approached $2500.00. Jaunta could not afford this which I knew. I offered her a settlement of $1950.00 to deliver where we would load everything into her garage, and as a courtesy we would set up the beds and heavy pieces to the places they needed to be. Ms. Rudison accepted this offer. Had she paid the night before her bill would have been $1200.00 to $1300.00.
Ms. Rudison's also requested that we force a sofa through a narrow stairway that we initially refused to do because it would result in damages. She signed off on a brute force attempt to do so and it worked but walls were damaged. All Ms. Rudison's damages are her responsibilty because the lack of respect on her part to the knowledge of our movers. Ms. Rudison has no legal right for a damage claim, she signed off on all of it.
We will not offer Ms. Rudison a settlement unless she has a legal damage claim that was not signed off on.
After already reducing her bill $500.00 I believe we made adequate attempts to resolve her financial situation.
Also this claim has gone through the the better business bureau and been closed with no blame being assigned to our company nor any compensation deemed necessary.
