I was out of school for a very long time and thought ASA was the place for me to finally obtain my college diploma. After sending an email to the school for some further information, I was harassed by ASA representatives for days on my cell phone. I decided to go into the school and had to take a placement test. I did good on the test and was immediately directed to the financial aid office. I then was told that my grants from pell and tap were not enough to cover tuition costs so I would need to take out a loan for $12,000.The red flag should have went up right then. I thought positive and was ready to get my diploma and start a career where I would be able to pay the loan off. I was off to my classes two days later and when I reached the campus, I was amazed to see that it was inside a shopping mall with see-thru windows, which shoppers could which you studying while riding up and down the escalator. I was given the school librarian as my mentor. One of my criminal justice professors with the initials A.L.B. was always in the hallway or in the classsoom with female students, giving hugs and kisses, just being too friendly. You pay for a three hour class on a saturday but you only stay for about an hour an a half each class. I had a professor that was a retired NYC police officer and you would have thought that he was living on another planet from the things he would say. The lunchroom area is a room that holds about eight people plus its also the janitor's room. There is only two bathrooms with five stalls and two sinks combined, you do the math. You are told to buy boks that you will need for your classes from there college bookstore that cost $100 a book or more and you never even use the book once. You are told that if you take a schedule with classes from 1 pm until 6 pm or weekend classes, you will get a automatic discount check for $1000 at the end of the semester but when the end of the semester came they told me because I failed one class I couldn't get the check. At one point I noticed an error on my financial aid application indicating that tuition was being paid to the school for a semester I never attended but when I went into the financial aid office they told me it was a typo in my file, it meant nothing. I returned to classes but when people started getting robbed for their cellphones and signs where put up telling grown-ups they coudn't wear hats or eat or drink, you weren't allowed to print more than twenty pages in their learning center. You are forced to pay for a class named freshmen skills seminar that teaches you how to make an resume and go on interviews. Most adults like myself have been in the workforce for plenty of years and didn't need this class but it is required to graduate. None of the credits you get from ASA will do you any good if you ever try to go to a real accredited college, you're time wasted for nothing. I witnessed students come to school drunk and high and totally disrupt the whole class but there was one female guard per floor and she sure wasn't going to do anything. After one semester at ASA I am done and I am glad I found out sooner than later. I am withdrawing from this mad house they call a college, I need to get some signatures from different departments and hopefully I am not in the hole for the whole $12,000 loan because I didn't use it for the whole 15-months course. I feel sorry for anyone that thinks ASA is trying to help them with getting a good education. All they want is for you to sign your name on those loan papers and then you are on your own from there. Most of the profesors have obtained their own degrees from Egypt, the Phillipines, China and the Ukraine back in the 70's and 80's. The things that they learned so many years ago in their countries has to be totally different from the United States now. The whole school needs to be closed down before it ruins anymore lives.

Currently I am attending ASA college and have a 3.87 GPA. I would like to start by saying I have no problems with any of the professors or student advisors. My problem is with the school itself and other staff.

Ripoff #1-Well before I even registerd for the 1st semester I was told there was a campus in Manhattan or Brooklyn that I could choose from. I live in the Bronx so I chose Manhattan of course. After my 2nd semester was finished I registerd for my 3rd semester and was told that I would have to travel all the way to Brooklyn because Manhattan does not provide all the classes I needed to take. Ripoff #2- After I first finished applying for financial Aid, I was told "Good luck Jennifer. Your done here and you won't have to come back again". That was not true. I have been going back every semester to reapply. Another time after my first semster I was told by a women in there office that my discount check would be 1200 dollars as opposed to the regular 891 dollars because I was on the honor roll. When I received my check it was only the regular 891dollars. Again for the 3rd time I was lied to.

Ripoff #3- I'm paying over 30,000 dollars for total tuition and continue to get disrespected and misstreated by a lot of the staff. The customer service is horrible. The last time when I was at the financial aid office the lady at the front desk was really mean to me for no reason. I nicely asked her how many people were in head of me because I was waiting for over an hour and had to go to class. With a nasty attitude she said "Seeing how were doing you a favor your just gonna have to wait. I don't know how long because your just a walk in". I'm thinking to myself, why didn't they tell me this when I came a couple days earlier and waited an hour just for them to give me paper work and say come back when you fill it out. I would have made an appointment then. Also how are they doing me a favor if I'm a paying student and they sent me emails asking me to go to there office. I didn't deserve to get spoken to that way.

I'm warning anyone who wants to go back to school. Do your research and check out reviews. I want to transfer to another college but its just not worth it because I'm already so far into my semesters. Again I have a 3.87 GPA. So needless to say its not me.

Frankly, I was very surprised by the sheer volume of negativity in this report. Yet, it is understandable why the report writer decided to blame everything that went wrong in her life on a place which didnt live up to her expectations (which were unreasonably high, needless to say). For instance, the report writer is appalled by the high cost of required textbooks You are told to buy boks that you will need for your classes from there college bookstore that cost $100 a book or more and you never even use the book once. not realizing that these prices are neither outrageous nor artificially hiked up by ASA college but rather standard. If the report writer went to check textbooks prices at other stores, college-affiliated or not, maybe shed have realized that. The anger is totally understandable yet it should be directed at pricing policies in publishing industry not at a random college bookstore.

The report writer is obviously furious when she is denied a tuition discount check at the end of the semester, forgetting that she failed one class and thus became no longer qualified for this type of the tuition reimbursement. The report writer is not happy about the curriculum either (You are forced to pay for a class named freshmen skills seminar that teaches you how to make an resume and go on interviews. Most adults like myself have been in the workforce for plenty of years and didn't need this class but it is required to graduate.) Well, maybe she, indeed, has been in the workforce for a long time, yet it is obvious that her resume writing skills, as well as her English grammar, punctuation and spelling, have a lot of room for improvement. Besides, just because the report writer didnt like the freshmen skills seminar, she shouldnt have spoken on behalf of other students, stating that no one needed this class it is too much of generalization.

And this Most of the profesors have obtained their own degrees from Egypt, the Phillipines, China and the Ukraine back in the 70's and 80's. is simply not true. Just check the college catalog to see for yourself.
