When my insurance company stopped serving customers in Georgia, my agent signed me up with a different company, namely Infinity Insurance, Atlanta Casualty. It sounded like a reputable name (judging a book by it's cover), so I didn't object at first.
When they sent the paperwork and the insurance card, the first thing I noticed was that my rates were four times higher than with my previous company. Also, there was an obvious lack of the company's phone number on the card, so if I had an accident or other need to call them, I had no phone number by which to do so.
After about three months with this company, I realized I could simply not afford their rates every month so I started a new policy with Progressive Insurance. Their rates were one half of what I was paying Infinity for the exact same coverage. As soon as I started this policy with Progressive, I notified my agent by fax of my actions and wrote Infinity letting them know I couldn't afford them and was forced to find a new company to deal with.
They must have tossed this notice in their shredder since they continued billing me. I wrote on the bill that this was B.S. and that I had fired them the previous month due to their inflated rates and the fact that I had no way to contact them in the event of a claim. They promptly turned the matter over to a collection agency who wrote me demanding approx. $250 for a the previous month. I had an attorney's office send the collection agency a letter disputing their claim and have as yet not heard back from them. I'm expecting to get a letter any day now.
Infinity is an extremely crooked company who cares nothing about the people they insure or the people who attempt to file claims with them (as I read in another report by 'Sherry' on this site about them). They charge inflated rates and are arrogant and impossible to deal with and it amazes me that they are able to stay in business while following these practices. I'm sure that Sherry and I aren't the only ones with issues about this company and I would love to see more stories about experiences with these con artists.
