I got a beautiful new (to me) Cummins Diesel Ram 2500!! Isn't she impressive? I thought so too!! I'll spare the long drawn out story of my encounters with Atlantic Motors in Waterbury, CT (I swear, this is the short version).

The bottom line is that this truck actually has 100,000 miles more on it than they originally told me and they do this to the majority of their diesel trucks.

I did have a bit of a shady feeling about the whole thing, but honestly, my 3 year old son and I were so in love with the truck that I decided to continue on with the transaction. It's a diesel engine, right? what's another 100k miles? I had read reviews from other people about this dealer messing with odometers. So, I knew it was a possibility that they had actually messed with mine. Again, I knowingly decided to move forward with the purchase.

I did rush them into releasing the truck to me on the day they received it from Texas. So, I also knew there could be problems with it. There were (and are). I contacted them and they were very nice in making arrangements to take the truck back to repair the problems. I took it down, there, they had it for a week, and repaired... some stuff...

These were the items that I had on the list:
Loose steering
Heat did not work consistently
Battery light was coming on
Backup Camera not working
Backup sensors not working
Radio sporadically didn't work
Trailer brake warning constantly coming on

Here is what they fixed
upper and lower ball joints on 1 side
alternator
wiring for the camera (which i learned was not new wiring, they just cut the wires and twisted them together)
the trailer light no longer comes on

Here's what I had to have another mechanic fix:
THE BALL BEARING ON THE SAME SIDE AS THE BALL JOINTS THEY REPLACED
THE COMPLETELY ROTTED BALL JOINTS ON THE OTHER SIDE
ALL NEW WIRING FOR THE CAMERA
NEW SENSORS
A HANDFUL OF OTHER SMALL THINGS

THIS BILL WAS ANOTHER $2,199. How could they miss this stuff if they were already in there and looking directly at the problems?? They "specialize" in these vehicles.

During all of this time, I was attempting to actually register this truck. Atlantic Motors did not give me what I needed to do so. I had a 30 day temporary plate to use in order to resolve the issue. Wouldn't you know it? That expired... and yes... the truck is STILL NOT REGISTERED. My insurance agent just received the paperwork from them yesterday (I purchased the truck around 2/10) that she attempted to send weeks ago. The first time, it was returned to her as undeliverable. She re-sent it to the same address, now registered mail, and huh... this time it was delivered. That's convenient.

This is just a glimpse at my experience with Atlantic Motors. Every interaction shadier than the last. They come across and very well may be nice people. But, I have never had a car buying experience like this one.

I know I bought the truck AS IS. But the truck was completely misrepresented. The odometer said 156,703, yet the mileage on the physical title says 256,703. 100,000 is definitely a detail that would have been nice to know. They said they were just as shocked as I was... but I know they weren't...

Would you like to know why?? Because the majority of the diesel trucks in their inventory have a significant number of miles above what they advertise! Since I started this list, they have stopped posting the VIN numbers for the trucks they are selling. So, if a truck on my list is one that you're interested in, I highly suggest you pull a carfax report. These things don't lie folks. When dealing with these guys, you should definitely PULL A CARFAX REPORT.

In my list (https://goo.gl/KD8gI8) I have posted the vehicles, their vin numbers, advertised mileage and actual mileage at the last service date on the carfax as well as 1 truck that they almost sold me (I had a deposit on it, but there was a title issue) and my current vehicle.

I certainly hate to see a family business suffer from something like this. But they had no respect for me, my family, my time and my money. At one point they completely stopped responding to me. I had to have my husband call. That is ridiculous considering how patient I had been with them through all of this. I would hate to see someone else go through this unknowingly.

That said, my truck still has problems. But my little boy still smiles and calls it Blaze every time he sees it. So, I guess that's priceless.
