Last May ('08) I discontinued service with at&t's uverse for cable because I was moving and could not get service there. They took my new address to send me boxes to return the equipment. Two and a half months later I recieved the boxes and packed the equipment.

My husband and I miscommunicated and thought the other had returned the box. Two months after recieving the box I found a debit on my checking account of almost $500. (when I had at&t I had auto pymnts through my account) I was never notified by phone or mail that this debit was going to occur.

I called the # on my statement and it was at&t customer service, but they had no idea what the charge was for because thay don't handle the Uverse. I finally got a reprsentative that could give me the correct # to uverse, this took me several phone calls over a weeks time.

So a week after the debit was taken I finally found the box and returned it, I called back several days later to confirm they had recieved it. At that time I was told that they had gotten the box and that they would take 48 hours to inspect it, and then I would be reimbersed my money.

The 48 hours passed and I was told the same thing. Every 2-3 days I called them for 3 weeks and still had no reimbusement. I then had a "manager" promise me that the money would be deposited back within 48 hours, it never happened. The guy did give me an email address but never responded to emails.

I called a lawyer who said he couldn't help and that I should file a complaint with the FCC, that didn't work. The FCC said that they couldn't help me in that sort of matter. I don't know where to get help with this, AT&T got their equipment back but won't give me my $500.

Also, when making the gross amount of phone calls to at&t's uverse, every time I had to wait 30 minutes before a representative even answered the line, and then spend at least another 30 minutes talking to them and getting transferred around. Therefore my phone was charged many, many minutes over my plan-about 90% of my plan, and then some, was used on the phone with them.

So, while trying to get my money back from them they cost me more money. Its just unbelievable! If anyone out there has a clue on how to get my money back please let me know- and the others too- I saw that other people have had the same problem. Thanks.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

Steps you could have took.

I would have contacted my Credit Card Company and requested a charge back (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chargeback) and then let AT&T deal directly with the Credit Card Company instead of with yourself. Then you could have filed a claim with the BBB which would have contacted AT&T on your behalf in regards to this issue and if that was left unresolved in a satisfactory amount of time. Then proceed to take them to the small claims court. Even though they are a HUGE company. This debit is below 4000 and can be processed by small claims court. You have the tracking number to confirm they got the equipment. Thus, you have the rights to your money. Also, I would report this to media outlets in your area that will put pressure on AT&T to act faster.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

You will probably have to sue them...

Small claims maybe?

But if I remember some other claims from this site, they may be processing a refund, but it will come by check in 45-60 days. Just a guess. Remember that this did start by not returning their boxes to them.
