Hello everyone,
I thought I might give you some insight on what could happen to anyone when they least expect it.
I was at the physician's office today and had just taken my brother upstairs and signed him in. He is in a wheelchair and has had
bilateral AKA. I went back down to get my purse and coffee that I left in the car and was headed back up to 2nd floor. I got in the
elevator alone and as the doors were almost closed they opened up and 2 black men around age 50 got in. One went to the back of the
elevator and the other one stayed in the front. The elevator opened on 2nd floor and the man in front acted as if his sandal was caught
in the elevator and asked me to pull it out and seemed unsteady. I thought he was going to fall so I grabbed
him around his arm. He insisted I reach down and pull his foot out. As I reached down his foot had resistance so I pulled harder. Then
he seemed unsteady and he was calling for me to help him. All the while the man behind me never offered to help which was strange
to me. Finally the man I was trying to help stepped back and I went ahead but it seemed very strange. My intuition told me to check
my purse for my billfold. IT WAS GONE. I immediately turned around and hit the elevator button as it was
closing and screamed at the two men YOU TOOK MY BILLFOLD!!! I kept holding the door and would not let it close which kept them
from going down. I screamed HELP and other stuff. The man said look lady I think you dropped your billfold and I looked down and saw
it on the floor. He pointed to it but wouldn't pick it up so I screamed HELP again and screamed these men stole my wallet. By now
about 5 people were coming down the hallway and the two men pushed through me and darted to the stairway across the room. I
looked over the balcony and could see them running and I started screaming again what that had done. There was a
girl in the stairway that they pushed aside on their way down. She said she heard me screaming and followed them running out the
door. She got the tag number and the police came and got a report. They gave me a case number to check on in a few days to see if
they caught them. She said it was very possible since we got the description of the minivan and tag #.
Please be safe out there. This was a very open office and people were on
both floors. I never saw them coming.
Judy
