Best Buy Rip-Off! Stay away from the Best Buy store on George Bush Highway in Garland, Texas when shopping in the Dallas area.

Some of the Best Buy stores in the Dallas area are selling a laptop which I was attempting to purchase. Best Buy is not going to sell this particular laptop anymore so they reduced the price. However, the price at the Garland store was substantially more than the identical item at another Best Buy store very close to the Garland store. I went to the Garland store to purchase this laptop, after I had called other Best Buys to confirm the low price. I was told the Best Buy in Garland had a boxed laptop. This item is hard to find. Upon arriving in the computer department of the Garland, Texas store I first had to turn down the volume on another laptop which the employees had blaring so loud you couldn't hear someone talking to you. I was then helped by a young man. I had to explain to him that the description referencing "2600" for the computer was part of the identification for the video card and not the hard drive as he stated. I knew I was in trouble. Not only was this employee clueless, but he was also completely disinterested. He was anxious for me to leave so he could crank up his music again. I told the employees the price quoted at other Best Buy stores fully expecting to receive that price for the computer. However, the Garland store quoted me a price several hundred dollars more than the other Best Buy stores. I asked them to adjust the price on the laptop and they refused. The manager told me that he doesn't make any money on the computers at their regular price? I guess he's losing a substantial amount of money whenever there is a computer sale. The Best Buy website was even selling the laptop for $50 less. I then called the corporate office. I was told that to match the price the stores have to be in the same "general area". Of course, I was originally told that the stores have to be in the same city. The stores I was dealing with are literally within 5-10 miles of each other which is a a very short distance by Dallas driving standards. Then, when they conceded the two stores were close, they stated that although they have their "Price Guaranty" they will NOT match another store's price if the item is labeled "clearance". The Garland store manager blamed it on corporate telling me that they determined which items have their prices lowered. In any event, three calls to the corporate office provided three different excuses. I was told they would call me back. I am still waiting. The worst part of this experience is that BEST BUY DOES NOT CARE......at all. There were absolutely no offers to assist me to find a store that sells the computer at the reduced price or even an "I'm Sorry". There was absolutely no offer to assist me whatsoever. The only comment I received was from a gentleman at the corporate office who told me I could take my business elsewhere. I have purchased thousands of dollars of products from Best Buy including appliances, televisions, speakers, etc. The purchases can be confirmed through my Rewards Card. I will never shop at Best Buy again. Further, I would strongly recommend that consumers completely avoid the George Bush Highway Garland store or run the risk of being ripped-off.

I see the confusion

AUTHOR: Bestbuylp - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, October 02, 2008

I see the confusion in the price match and why they would or would not match or whatever be the case. Here's the bottom line. In fact the manager is right, Best buy sells laptops at or below cost to drive competition and it is in fact at his discretion at what price to sell the laptop at after it is no longer sold. If he believes he can sell it regular priced then he may do so, however it is not illegal or wrong for that pricing to be different. The best option is to simply go to one of the other best buys that have the lower price, have them ship it from store to store and buy it there. It's not a scam or a rip off just simply the stores you visited may have wanted to clear stock of that item or they had a small amount of laptops. As for the employee, you meet the best and worst people who know either a lot and are passionate or the employee you met.
