We bought a JVC DVD/MP3 player at ABC Wherehouse on 4-25-03. On 5/6 we found that the product does not play MP3 discs after a certain area of the disc, I've tested the same disc in other JVC models and other brand name players and the disc plays properly. The salesman that sold us the DVD player identified the problem as a production line defect.
We tried exchanging it for another model, but couldn't find anything at the right price range. We then asked the salesperson for a refund, at which time he contacted the assistant manager who said we would not be able to return the product without the original box. Since we never receive a written or verbal notification of the stores policies, we're surprised. When we confronted the person about the lack of info on the return policy he became raised his voice and said it didn't matter because "It came with a box, didnt it?"
My husband and I then said we would like to file a formal complaint before leaving the store, at which time we we're told that if we didn't leave the police would be called. We waited for the police and left without filing a formal complaint with the company. Since no one would take it.
The next day (5/7) my husband went back to the store to speak to the general manager who said he "didn't care" about the lack of return policy and told my husband " you area jerk, get out of my store" in front of our child.
Since there was no return policy, we did not keep the box for this particular product, so we are still in possession of it.

To the sarcastic consumer who submitted a rebuttal - for your information ABC has a return policy that the DO NOT offer to tell you - as any honest business should and would! ABC Warehouse IS DISHONEST!!!!
First of all - who in their right mind keeps the box that their dishwasher, fridge, stove etc comes in for a year! That makes you the stupid one if you think anyone does that! Do you keep the boxes that your merchandise comes in for at least a year??? Bet not!! Obviously you don't know anything about ABC Warehouse. They do not send the merchandise back to the manufacturer - they send it out to be fixed and returned to the consumer. IF in the event it can't be fixed - it is replaced with another POS and the original piece is sent to their "pretend to fix it" place and then put back out on the floor for another consumer to buy (hopefully you) so you can have the headache!!!!!
A suggestion to you - get educated on the store before you open your fat mouth to insult someone who has experienced an issue. They were the ones who got treated like crap. Were you there to witness? Nope!! So shut your pie hole!

How on earth do you expect to get a refund for merchandise when you are not returning ALL of the components that it came with? Yes - this includes THE BOX! Do you know that many stores cannot return defective merchandise to the manufacturers for credit if they do not send in the factory authorized box along with the merchandise?
Oh, I suppose you expect the store to accommodate you and take a full loss for the product, right? It is not the store's fault that you were never informed of the return policy at the time of purchase. You have a mouth, why did you not open it and ask! As for being a jerk and having the police called on you, you weren't by chance one of those loud-mouth rude demanding customers are you? If by chance you are, that is unfortunate, as you probably could have got what you wanted had you been calm, rational, and pleasant toward the store staff. Shame on you for being a jerk in public, in front of your small child! What kind of lessons are you teaching him/her/it!
