aurora west allis hospital substandard care West Allis Wisconsin

 this happened in 2009 but i still think about it on occasion. my mother was a regular in and out patient at aurora west allis hospital for some ten years. what started her regular visits was a doctors idea to change medication dosage. it was blood thinner medication. she had taken it twice a day. for no particular reason he decided to change the dosage to once per day and doubled the potency. this made her dizzy and she fell down and hurt herself. that led to the first hospitalization. it went on from there. i estimate that the hospital billed approximately $1,000,000.00 to medicare and medicaid over the years. she developed a number of health issues that kept getting worse. she kept fainting and falling. this lead to more injuries and hospitalizations. the pivotal moment came when she complained of numbness in her arm. i took her to her doctor at aurora, lillie.

she was concerned about a stroke. he told her no. a month later she told me to call the west allis paramedics which i did. the punk paramedic told her there was nothing wrong. she pleaded with him to take her to the hospital. he relented and took her to the aurora west allis hospital emergency room. the emergency doctor told me there was nothing wrong but they would keep her for more tests. the next day i received a call from doctor kispert. he told me my mother had a stroke a month before. he wanted to know why i hadn't brought her in sooner. he had an very accusatory tone. when i told him lillie had examined her a month before, kispert ended the conversation. when i asked kispert about his comments during a subsequent office visit, he denied making the original statement. he did though recommend surgery to clear the vein in her neck.

he told me that he would keep my mother in the hospital for a week after the surgery. three days after the surgery, a doctor named bowman who i'd never heard of called and told me to come and get my mother as he had discharged her. i took her home. i found her on her bedroom floor the next morning. i had to call the paramedics to take her back to the hospital. she was in the hospital for several weeks that time. the nurses and physical therapists dragged her out of bed five times a day for therapy. my mother wailed like a baby due to the pain. the nurses wouldn't give her pain medication unless i complained. there is nothing more pathetic than to see an adult break down and cry like a child. aurora west allis hospital was a virtual chamber of horrors. she was finally discharged back home. she went back and forth to the hospital for several months.

one day she was short of breath and went back to the hospital. she was diagnosed with lung and cervical cancer but it was worse than that. her whole torso was filled up with cancer. all those years she went to the same hospital and yet somehow developed cancer. she use to sit in her wheelchair and stare out the window. she could see the aurora cancer treatment center from her front room. i called a lawyer who told me that my mother may have a good case against aurora and various staff for negligence. the lawyer said he needed my mothers medical records in order to proceed. the records clerk at the hospital told me that my mothers medical records were unavailable until all of the doctors whose name appeared on the records came down in person to the medical records office and signed off on each record. it was a delaying tactic. the hospital staff knew my mother didn't have long to live. they would delay delivery of her records as long as they could.

my mother was admitted to the hospice program and sent back home with a box of medication which included liquid morphine. also were the services of health aids who would come into her apartment with a general bad attitude. after another bout of shortness of breath she was back in west allis aurora hospital for the last time. this is where is gets disgusting. the emergency room doctor called me after my mother arrived to ask what happened to the morphine patch that my mother had on her shoulder. i replied that it had fallen off. i actually found it on her bed as i was talking to the doctor. this doctor then proceeded to invite me to the emergency room but wouldn't say why. that had never happened before. i told him i would wait until my mother was admitted before i went in. i went to see my mother hours later after she was admitted. the most peculiar thing happened. the nurse assigned to my mother acknowledged me and then stood in the doorway of my mothers room with her back to me.

she was blocking the door so no one could get in or out. within minutes of my arrival, two goons from the west allis police department stormed my mothers hospital room. yes two police officers with their guns and badges burst into her hospital room. their names were alison miller and andrew matter or bimbo and blockhead, which ever you prefer. apparently the nurse had called them to let them know i was there. the room was not very big. bimbo stood at the foot of my mothers bed and first demanded my identification and then began to interrogate my mother. blockhead stood in front of me with his hands at his side. one hand near his gun and the other near his night stick. bimbo asked my mother who had access to her apartment. she wanted to know who had access to her morphine. in case you missed it earlier, my mother was dying of cancer. this blonde bimbo in blue with her badge and gun was talking to my mother as if she had committed some crime but wouldn't say what.

blockhead laid in to me. he said the punk paramedic who brought my mother to the hospital reported that i was stealing my mothers morphine. blockhead then stated that the emergency room doctor had accused me of giving my mother too much morphine. (two completely different accusations). he went on to explain how he and bimbo were waiting for me all day. this was an ambush. about that time an aurora hospice administrator showed up and bimbo and blockhead left the room to talk to her. blockhead told the hospice administrator that he was "ready to take him in" (meaning me). blockhead then stepped back into my mothers room and snarled at me "that's it" and then he was gone. they didn't even have the balls to give me their names before they left. i stayed with my mother for a little while and then went back to her apartment.

as i walked in the door, the phone was ringing. it was lillie. i told him about the police visit to my mothers hospital room. lillie told me he already knew the police were in my mothers room. lillie then implied that i was taking my mothers morphine. i offered to take a blood test and lillie said the blood test was useless. i needed a hair sample test he said. i paid two hundred dollars for two hair drug tests both of which came back negative. the next day i was sitting in the front room of my mothers apartment. i glanced out the window and saw blockhead in his patrol car. he was staring at me through the window. i was shocked, i thought he was coming to arrest me but he took off. this was getting down right scary. all i could think of was that the staff at aurora west allis hospital were sending us a message and they were using the west allis police goon squad to do their dirty work.

as long as my mother was alive, it was a problem. the hospital wanted her dead as soon as possible. the alternative was a negligence suit against the hospital. i was a nervous wreck. every time i went to the hospital, i was on the look out for cops. the hospital staff claimed ignorance when i asked about the police visit. after a few days my mother was transferred to zilber hospice in wauwatosa. as soon as my mother was admitted the admission clerk took me into another room to tell me that my mother did not have insurance coverage for the hospice visit. after the meeting, the staff at the hospice increased my mothers morphine dosage. at the hospital the staff did the same thing but i complained and they reduced the dosage. too much morphine will kill. i told the hospice staff repeatedly to reduce the dosage but they kept putting me off.

they increased the dosage so much that my mother became near comatose. they wanted her dead sooner than later. after about a week the morphine worked and my mother passed away due to the morphine overdose administered by the hospice staff. the oncologist at aurora west allis hospital had said my mother could have lived another five years. now she was gone. i wanted answers. i began collecting information. wow what an exercise in futility that was but i was persistent. i contacted the west allis police department to find out why bimbo and blockhead were in my mothers hospital room. the deputy chief jerry ponzi sent me a letter claiming that the west allis fire department paramedic had called the police to investigate my mother and myself. i contacted the west allis fire department. they claimed that they didn't call the police.

i contacted the hospital to find out why they allowed the police into a cancer patients room. the hospital claimed they didn't know the police were there. at the time i didn't even know the first and last names of the two goons. i actually had to file suit in milwaukee county circuit court to find out their first and last names. that was all the information i could get. the west allis city attorney, scott e. post refused my repeated request for information. he did send repeated menacing letters to me. i was up against post and two of his staff lawyers, jeffrey warchol and jenna merten, white collar thugs nothing more. i finally gave up. i never did find out why bimbo and blockhead were in my mothers hospital room. i never found out why blockhead was outside my mothers apartment spying on me through the window.

the statements made by the various parties all contradicted each other. the police and city attorney wouldn't even admit that bimbo and blockhead were in my mothers hospital room at all. that's what started this. the city attorneys lied to the circuit and appeals court and got away with it. giving the police my mothers room number and address were privacy violations to begin with. i don't know how much aurora west allis hospital paid for this goon squad to terrorize my mother in her last days. the hospital refused to release my mothers medical records until after she passed away and then they demanded over $1000.00. after i said that i wouldn't pay for the records the hospital offered me the records for free. the catch was that i would have to go to aurora west allis hospital in person to pick up the records. they refused to mail the records. it sounded like they were trying to ambush me again. i didn't fall for it. it was too late anyways.

my mothers passing ended any chance of a negligence suit against the hospital. as far as i know these people are still around. still on the job. still on patrol. i think about this event from time to time. the humiliation that i felt is beyond description. i imagine that having to answer bimbo and blockheads questions between her last dying breathes were some of the last memories my mother had before she passed. if that wasn't bad enough, my mother was thirsty and asking for water. i couldn't move. blockhead had me cornered in the chair. if you or someone you know is a patient at aurora west allis hospital and you start asking too many questions you too might get a visit from the goon squad. if you don't like it, scott e. post and his white collar thugs are ready to put you in your place. don't let the slick commercials or shiny badges fool you. these people are monsters.
