Australian Tan Morgan Hill Cancelled but still charged, obtained banking informatoin without consent. morgan hill California

I signed up in this location and it was easy, but to cancel they make you send a postcard and your own expense.

I went in to update my credit card information, but informed the front desk that I also wanted to settle anything outstanding and cancel, I was told that since they didnt have my new banking information that I would not be charged again and that had no remaining balance. A few months went by and I recieved a charge on my new bank account for $105, I called in to find out why; I was informed that my account (that I had cancelled) was past due and they updated my new banking informatoin by utilizing something called Visa Auto Update, I explained that I had not authorized this new banking information to be on file. The CS rep told me that VAU was an agreement with banking institutions and to help prevent their clients from incurring back due fees by failing to udate their banking informaton for the tanning subscription. I asked her what the charges were, she stated it was for 2 months past due and 2 late fees (the exact thing VAU is suppposed to prevent) I asked her to waive the fees and although I had cancelled this account I just wanted to settle whatever was necessary and discontinue business with Australian tan, she could not help me. I feel violated that this company obtained my banking information and used that new information to charge me without authroization, I am also upset that they give you a huge run around to cancel something you can sign up for in less than 2 minutes. I am also dissapointed in the misinformation I recieved when I cancelled and over the phone today with customer service.
