BALLISTIC BATTERY - Does not honor warranty, LIED, Does not respond, took my money!

I bought a Ballistic EVO2 4-cell battery back in April for a 1975 Honda CB200 motorcycle.  The battery DIED in the middle of riding.  Left me strained, had to walk 3 miles to get help, then rented a motorcycle trailer, and haul it home to put on the LiFe charger.  That's when I knew that it was/were dead cells from the "Battery Connection Break" error message.  The battery would not recharge at all.

Phoned Ballistic, 920-545-4956, left messages and finally a "Bryan" called me back and said I should check my CDI on my CB200 -- and he sooo sure of it, because he used to own one just like it (Lied).  But THERE IS NO CDI.  It is an old bike and does not utilize CDI; simple points and plate.  Told me to send it back, but didn't even give me ticket number or even address or who to make it to, just "Bryan" when I pressed him for an answer.

So shipped a couple days later with tracking number, receipt, full description of what happened, contact info. Called one week later, left VM.  Emailed Technical, General, Customer emails. Nothing.  Two weeks, left another VM.  Nothing.  Third week, another VM, still nothing!  NO call-back, no response.  It's one MONTH now.  And I have given up.

I've been duped for $100 for a product that had to work ONCE per week on a sunday.  I've put maybe less than 20 miles on the battery.  Had to buy a new battery ($64) that would fit my bike (small sealed lead-acid), rented a trailer ($15), not to mention wasted a whole day walking, gas to rent the trailer.

I just want them to contact me, or send me a confirmation, or a new battery.  Is that so hard?

Where did you purchase your battery?

AUTHOR: MC Retailer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, October 01, 2012

Ballistic is normally very good about honoring their warranty, but it sounds like you got a big run-around from your customer service contact. A bad CDI would make no sense even if your bike had one. I would verify that the charging system is putting out no more than 14.6 Volts, as per their warranty statement. With that info prepared for them, they should jump at the chance to take care of your warranty. The MC community is very tight, after all, and I'm sure they want to do the right thing, even just to avoid negative press.

There are other channels for warranty if that still isn't working. If you purchased this from a retailer, instead of BMS directly, you should try to contact the seller about an exchange. These batteries carry a warranty with the distributor, who can usually take care of the exchange if BMS can't.

The shop I work at sells quite a lot of these; on the rare occasion that replacement is required, the distributor handles the claim process for us as it's just more streamlined than going direct to the manufacturer. Most shops should be able to do the same for you, especially if you explain the problems you're having going directly through BMS.
