I live in the Kansas City MO area and heard about this new bank at the time called "Bank Midwest". They put on a good advertisment so I decided to give them a try. I pulled my funds from my old bank and opened an account with Bank Midwest of Lexington Mo. I had started with really good sevice and like most bad companies, things started down hill!
I drive a truck over the road and I'm gone for weeks at a time and all my pay was being Direct Deposited into my account. Well, It started with when I would get home, My moneys was nowhere to be found! I'd have to call the bank and go threw all kinds of hassle just to find my money! I had a insurance co auto withdraw $25.00 a month from my account. Well....as the problems with the bank got worst, I decided I would withdraw all my moneys from this bank and close my account. I also notified the insurance company known as TVC of OK City,OK to stop all auto withdraws!
Well...I had to leave out of town for work and in 3 weeks when I got back in town, I found out that this insurance co had attempted a 1 auto withdraw. The bank, Bank Midwest had acted as if it was a bad check and billed me for None sunifangant Funds and charged me a $25.00 fee and being I was out of town and didnt get the money to them in the 5 days the letter stated, they put me on record with Check Services!!! I paid them there $25.00 and they told me I'd be taken off of Check Services, but I was lied to! I had tried to open a check account with another bank and was told I owed Bank Midwest money....so I called them and they stated that I don't!!!! I told them to call Check Sevices and tell them that....she stated that she cant and that I should just wait till the 6 years is over so I can automaticly be removed from it!
Well, they flat out lied to me. They told me to pay the $25.00 and I would be taken off Check Sevices and it would show paid...NOT DONE! They got there money 4 years ogo and I still cannot bank anywhere!!! I have 4 children and want to buy a house but becouse of there none caring adutude, over a misly $25.00 with they have been paid in full, I cannot get a bank account...I cannot save anything for my childrens future or even get a loan! They wont even give me the phone number to this Check Services co so I can talk with them! Please, if you can help me, Id be forever gratefull! Its been 4 years and counting. As of 3-15-04....Check services has me as owing Bank Midwest $25.00 which Bank Midwest has full records of it being paid in full 4 years ago. If you care about your money, your family, and your good name....DONT DO BUISNESS WITH "BANK MIDWEST" in KANSAS CITY AREA....esp. the Marshall or Lexington branches!!! Learn fron my faults!

AUTHOR: brandon - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 14, 2015

To all the employees of bank midwest who felt the need to get on here and say it's all your fault that's what you get. I just want to thank you all for showing exactly what kinda people work at bank midwest. His point is not that he got chaged the fee his point is that he paid it and went to the bank for help. And for you to say the bank cannot help or call is straight BS. I had this problem with a different bank they sent me to manager of bank. I waited got in explained what happened she called and had everything corrected in 20 minutes. For you response to be wait 6 years and we can't do nothing is BS. And for you employees thanks for showing true colors of the bank midwest employees. I stead of getting on here and offering help so people could change view of your bank and employees you came on here and proved exactly what he said ya was like no support just all blame on him and straight A $$E$.

Bank Midwest, a poor choice for consumers

AUTHOR: Lee - (Australia)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 28, 2006

When I did training and development for financial institution staff a few years back I became quite familiar with most of the banks and larger credit unions, sometimes learning alot about their processes and policies. Some banks tend to have quite a bit of training ongoing for staff to improve things like customer service, product knowledge and computer proficiency.

Bank Midwest on the other hand I only had the "pleasure" of working with once. I was contracted to hold training and assessment of tellers(reps) and branch managers customer service and problem resolution skills. I can honestly say that I had never been more astounded in my life. At most other banks at least staff would "play the game" and at least pretend to have some concern for customers and helping them with their problems, in role plays and discussions Bank Midwest staff would say things like "That's your problem, not mine" or "If you don't like it take out your $300 and bother another bank" with other staff and managers laughing all the while. There really seemed to be a deep pathology in that organization. They just didn't care to improve or display any empathy. I would have gone back if they had needed more training but surprisingly it didn't appear to be a priority for them.

I too have had problems with Bank Midwest

AUTHOR: Birdy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 26, 2006

This bank offers very poor customer service. I have had reasons to contact them several times about several banking issues. EVERY customer service rep has been rude to me or is unaware of their banking policy or sadly both.

I called one time to let them know that they deposited a $472.00 to my account and it was not mine.

There response is the money has to stay in your account until the rightful owner comes forward.

Just today I had to hang up in frustration over some charges that were on my account that weren't mine. They couldn't offer me any help except to tell me I have to cancel my account and open an new one.

This bank is simply not professional. I feel sorry for others who have had bad experiences with them as I feel their frustration.

This bank should be avoided.

there are ways to contact chexsystems and get this resolved

AUTHOR: Jessica - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 29, 2005

I've also been a victim of chexsystems, but not by this bank. There are ways to get your negative information off of there but the bank must work with you also. Here is my story:

I had checks stolen from me for a bank acct that was closed. I did not know I still had the checks so it wasn't like I knew they were missing till a cop shows up at my door asking if I recognize the checks and If I knew someone by the name of Amanda so and so. I said yes she was staying with me for a short period of time. She used the checks at walmart, giant, ect to purchase things. The checks were in amounts like $350, $98, and other high amounts. When I went to open a checking acct I was told NO by them and they gave me a paper to call chexsystems personally and find out why they had declined me. The bank should not have been the one to tell you WHO was reporting you to ChexSystems. With that paper you are entitled to a free report. They will send it to you and you have to go through the list of negative feed back and have them remove your name. Now someone on here said that the bank just can't do that, well it sure was easy for Walmart and Giant to get in touch with them and take it off. Because within a few months I was able to open an acct. It took me this long because I had a few problems with Giant because they insisted that I had to get a new License number which the state of Pennsylvania would not consider. Once I told them that they were more then willing to do it. I didn't even have to send in the police report of the people that stole the checks from me.
I know that this story isn't even related to your problem but there is hope and if Walmart and Giant can call ChexSystems to take me off of there then a bank can surely do the same thing.
In the mean time there are ways to get accts on the internet even with ChexSystems breathing down your back. some sites charge a fee and others don't but its up to you. Just do a search for NON-CHEXSYSTEMS BANKS. I hope I am of some help to you because I know how hard it is when you are on chexsystems.

#10 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Slander Bank Midwest, but it's truly a great bank.

AUTHOR: Laura - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, January 24, 2005

As an ex-employee of course I'm going to be very fond of Bank Midwest. I worked there and saw how it worked from the inside. Listening to what David has said about his account and Bank Midwest makes him sound as if he's belligerent and that he's incompetent with his bookkeeping skills. David sounds like all the customers who come in and have no clue how a bank operates. The banks don't take your money. If you overdraw your account then you owe them the NSF fee for the processing fee of the overdraft (it is not stealing from you). Your auto insurance company is at fault for overdrawing your account. It was your responsibility to contact the insurance company in enough time for them to stop the auto-withdrawal before you close the account. You didn't allow your account to stay open with funds to cover your last insurance withdrawal so that is your negligence. Bank Midwest is not going to just take the hit for your insurance payment so they're gonna charge you the NSF fee on the withdrawal. That NSF fee is what you had outstanding with the bank and that's what they reported to CheckSystems. If you had kept your account in a better standing and not been so hasty to close the account this wouldn't have happened. Also, if you owed the $25 NSF fee, why did you wait so long to pay it? Why not pay it before they would report it to CheckSystems? After 30 days of a negative balance your account is reported. Maybe you should keep better records and better track of your accounts. I still work in the banking industry and there are several people just like you, David. Many are ignorant to the way a bank account operates. You can't just close the account and take all the money if you still have outstanding debits or checks that will come through. I have banked with Bank Midwest for 4 years now and I have never even had one problem with them. I would recommend them to anyone I know or anyone that reads this.

He said quote "I dont give a d**n" and went on to say that he is not calling checksystems for me and that if I want to open an account there its ok, but the fact that I cant anywhere else is not there consern. I WILL GIVE EVERYONE OUT THERE SOME ADVICE, DO NOT BANK WITH BANK MIDWEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David of Oak Grove, Show them your complaint on the Rip-Off Report

AUTHOR: Harry - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 10, 2004

David, I have worked as in corporations for 30 odd years and in a bank for 6 years. I suggest you go into the Home Office of Bank Midwest and ask to speak to a supervisor. Show them your complaint on the Rip-Off Report website and tell them you'd like to work with them to resolve your problems. Admit that you were hasty in closing your account and now that you realize your mistake, you would appreciate their cooperation in getting your complaint resolved.

AFTER they help you, then post your comments about that meeting; hopefully your comments will be positive and you get your credit back.

Bank Midwest cannot withhold contact information for ChexSystems...

AUTHOR: Franz - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, July 08, 2004

CS is considered a Credit Reporting Agency and anyone can get their contact info from the bank.

Go in and tell the Bank that they will call CS and clear it up or you will contact your state Attorney General's office for failure to follow the Fair Credit Act.

Incorrect information has to be removed within 30 days of notification to the credit agency (in this case CS). It may take 30 days to get it off of the CS system, but it has to be done.

The Bank is the 'creditor' and as such has the responsisbility to contact CS and tell them that the debt was paid.

Check out this link:

Good info above, but, ..CLICK here to see why Rip-off Report, as a matter of policy, deleted either a phone number, link or e-mail address from this Report. Rip-off Report went to this link, it was a link to a free credit check! and.. we were inundated with pop-ups wanting your personal info to give you a so-called free credit report. This FREE site with all the pop-ups froze up 2 different computers so badly we had to shut down and re-boot.. Nothing is FREE! ..they get your info and use it! Go directly to the credit reporting agencies, it's worth the small fee they charge to insure no one will take your personal info and use it..

for information about the FCRA and FACTA.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

The way the Banking Industry works... It's CheckSystems fault.

AUTHOR: Laura - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 07, 2004

What you explained is typical of the banking industry. It's just the way it operates. I used to work for Bank Midwest. It's a great bank. I quit because I had to move out of their banking area after having my daughter. But even to this day, 2 1/2 yrs after I quit and moved 2 1/2 hours away, I still bank there. I'll probably never move my accounts that I have with them. I have direct deposit and I've never had a problem with them "losing" money.

When you decided to move your account somewhere else you can't just withdraw everything if you have an auto withdrawal set up. When you contact the insurance company or whoever your auto withdrawal may be from it will take aproximately 30 days to go into effect. So if your payment was set to withdraw anytime with in those three weeks you were gone, that's why. You didn't give them enough proper notice for them to stop the withdrawal.

And when your account is closed it will reject the withdrawal and in return the bank will charge you the Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) Fee. They have processing that they have to do because you closed your account with an outstanding withdrawal that came through. They charge that NSF fee because of your negligence. About the CheckSystems, just another thing that would happen at any bank.

You closed your account, had an item come through, it was returned, you have an outstanding balance after it's returned and a fee is assessed. After a period of time the bank reports your oustanding balance to CheckSystems. This is to alert other banks and financial institutions that you left an outstanding balance at one point. When you paid Bank Midwest they would report that to CheckSystems so they could post that it was paid. The fact that it still shows that you owe is not Bank Midwest's fault. It's CheckSystems fault.

They're notorious for not posting paid accounts correctly. But Bank Midwest was right, they can't call CheckSystems about it and neither can you. If it's not changed the first time you just have to wait the 6 years out. But you brought this upon yourself. Bank Midwest didn't tell you to withdraw your money and let an auto withdrawal come through.

So if you're gonna be mad at anyone, be mad at yourself for not leaving the insurance money in the account and then closing it. But me looking from the banking industry view. I have never heard of being rejected for loans because of a small amount like that reported.

Also, if you say you've paid it, they'll generally call the bank to verify that it in fact had been paid. But like I said, you have no one to be mad at but yourself. But I would fully recommend this bank to anyone in it's banking regions.
