Bank Of America not following procedure. ripoff Tempe Arizona

A friend of mine wanted to get a check cashed that was written to him but he would sign over to me. being a third-party check, they said no. no problem. So he deposited the check into his seperate bank and wrote me a personal check for two thousand dollars. Instead of multiple people telling me the procedure would have been that the bank would deposit the check, they cashed it instantly. the check was bad. so now they closed my account, and are taking legal action. thats what happens when you hire college kids to work at your bank.

Some friend...

Since he had an account at another bank he could've just cashed the check there. The only reason to involve you is because he knew that it would bounce.
Banks can't tell right away if a check you deposit is good. If it comes back bad for any reason, you have to cover it.

Some banks don't hold for good customers

If your bank likes and trusts you, and you have shown trustworthiness in handling your account, they will sometimes cash or deposit a check for you without holding it. However, you are still responsible to make good on it if the check is bad. They did not cash it for you knowing the check was good. They cashed it for you because they trusted you to make good on the check if it turned out to be a bad one. You need to get the money back from your friend, who needs to get his money back from whoever wrote the check to him.
Remember everyone, if the bank gives you the money and the check is bad, the bank wants their money back.
In addition, you DO NOT want your name in Chexsystems! Do whatever you can before it gets that far.

Cacy-
So your friend wrote you a check that turned out to be bad? My experience having had worked for a bank and having had several different checking accounts, is that most banks will put a hold on any check for a minimum of 2 business days (longer for out of state checks). However, my current bank does not put a hold on any check but I will not spend the money in the account until my bank has verified that the funds have cleared.
My advice would be to go back to the friend that wrote the check and attempt to resolve this. Otherwise, you do have the option of legal recourse since it is a felony in most states to write a bogus check in that amount.
In the future, if someone writes a check to you, I would not spend a penny of that money until the bank affirms that the check has cleared, meaning that the funds were available in the account. Good luck to you.

Regardless of all the irrelevent details you provided, the truth is clear -- YOU ATTEMPTED TO DEPOSIT A BAD CHECK INTO YOUR ACCOUNT. How is this the bank's problem??? It sounds like they DID "follow procedure" when they closed your account on grounds of fraud.
