Upon admission blood was drawn and my glucose was almost 600. I never knew I was a diabetic. A nurse named Rose on 3 southeast Ortho was extremely rude, ignorant and insolent to me. She questioned whether I could read and I said I am going to school for Nursing and have a 3.8 average and a 4.0 last quarter. I am covered by my out of state insurance Care Source which is Medicaid because I am disabled.
Once the Nursing staff found out the type of insurance the care went even further down hill and the snotty attitudes were all over the hospital. I was not trained on the Glucometer and Rose gave me a book that she said covered what I needed to know. I was not shown how to insert the strips, what my levels should be or anything else. Rose was the most indigent Nurse I ever meet.
I did not know what my insurance would or would not cover and I was in the hospital. I was then told I would be given a Glucometer before I leave. They made sure to tell me they gave it to me free which is stupid since most pharmaceuticals give these things to the hospital anyway and nothing is out of any hospital pocket. Who were they kidding?
When I left the hospital three days later after being told I was never an admission but in observation by some other hospital staff and was told I would have to leave. The primary said that was not the case but the very next day I was not only never treated for my shoulder issues at all other than drugs I will never be able to take because Dilaud is a drug that is too harsh on the stomach and I have bleeding ulcers and am a student. I cannot be in a altered state to drive or go to school but that is what they prescribed anyway.
When I went to the hospital pharmacy to pick up my supplies I was never told that the Glaucometer they allegedly gave me my insurance would not cover the test strips. I went home with 5 test strips and now cannot even check my Glucose. They gave me the draw of insulin which I never used in the hospital and had to return that for the Flex pens. The Pharmacist said she did not believe at Bon Secour that they would cover the test pens and until I pushed her to check they did cover it. She did not wan to go out of her way to help me at all.
Once I came home I found out that the needles for my insulin were also the wrong kind and not the ones used in the hospital at all. I was given all different equipment and never was properly trained on the equipment I was then given and had to have that switched but now my insurance will not order the test strips for the Glaucometer in my hand. What a sham this hospital is.
I now have to call my primary doctor out of state to try and fix the total lack of any quality care at Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe, Michigan
In fact I tried to call Dr. Brennan the Endocrinologist who was assigned to me at the hospital to get this figured out as he told me to call him if I had problems before I went home and now will not deal with my situation. He gave me the insulin at the hospital and since Thursday night I have not been able to test my blood sugar as I do not have the test strips. Dr. Brennan does not care if I go into a Diabetic Coma because he refuses to continue care until I go home to my own State as he said he would. What a Liar he is.
God help the merger with Henry Ford. Henry Ford should stay away from Beaumont Hospital as this hospital wants to murder its senor citizens and give no follow through, proper training or even nice Nurses. I will be glad to leave the State and go home. Michigan people watch out for Beaumont Hospital.
Beware of Beaumont's policies

You had shoulder pain and had to be transported via ambulance to a hospital on the taxpayer's dime. No sympathy here. Then you b***h about how you "disabled" and did not receive "proper" treatment. I find that hard to believe. ERs are for people who are in dire need of help ie: heart attack, stroke, life threatening events. Don't like it deal with it. You are not paying for your healthcare! I lost my job and cannot qualify for Medicaid so I have to pay all my healthcare bills.
You brought up your disability so what is it?? How can you afford to go to school but receive taxpayer's assistance???? How can you go to school if you are "disabled"??
I have severe shoulder issues too but don't go running to the ER. And how did your primary not know about your diabetes??? If you get yearly checkups then blood work would let your primary know this. I think your report is full of crap and you want something for nothing once again on the TAXPAYERS dime.
