Please! Before you go to beta tech do some research. When I left work to become a full time student and mother, I looked into Beta tech since they had a 2 year paralegal program, and i wanted to adventually get a bachelor's. I talked w/ a academic advisor, who assured me that my credits would transfer to a 4 year school, that started the first lie. I started the process, I first talked with financial aid, I was told that pell had covered all the cost, however the next day i was called in to sign loan papers. When I question what the loans were for since pell have covered my class cost, Ms. Rep said, well books, and other class fees are not covered by this, I guess it's partly my fault, I should have stopped there and looked further into the school. I didn;t, I started.

My shocker came after about 10 months, they did manage to have a sensible person teaching a class, she will remain nameless, she advised me that not only would the credits not transfer over, people do not make a practice of hiring students from Beta Tech. I went to the head, Dr. Butthead, I told of him of how they got me to be a student there, and then no credits transferring. He didn;t say anthing, but, "you only have a little time left". What the hell? I'm not talking about the time I have left, what about the time, and money that I invested? He sais nothing, I left the books, abd everything right there in his office.

I left the school right then, I am 9000.00 in debt with student loans, and didn't learn a thing, and they have put something against my credit for 4500.00. When I called to find out what this was they said school cost, then what the hell was the loan and pell grant for? I asked them for something that I signed a prommissary note for this, they hung up in my face. I called back and spoke with someone with the collection agency to get information about it, they told me to borrow money. I am now trying to dispute this off my credit, but it;s a lot to go through. Please do not fall into their trap, find elsewhere to go. Beta Smech is not getting a red dime from me!

UPDATE--Beta Tech name changed to Centura College--UPDATE

AUTHOR: Opus - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, April 09, 2008

These 'pillars of higher education' have changed their name... Possibly to escape the horrific reputation they have.

As of 4-9-08 they still have a campus with raw sewage flowing down the main parking area where students walk. (Just look for a V formation in the parking lot with a white hue to it EW!) They still have not updated the equipment or followed suggestions by either the 'advisory boards' or ACC/ST visits. Most of the information in the accreditation reports are manufactured and they have no intentions of following them. You see to run the locations properly you must spend money and maintain the equipment along with having a staff that is qualified and able to teach classes.

Beta Tech/Centura College excels at losing its best assets and pushing good instructors out the door by not rewarding good performance. Not only that the education you will recieve from them will be the same that you would have gotten from just buying the books and studying at home!!! 80% of the time you either will not have an instructor or
you will have someone that has no clue what the subject is.

I have personally witnessed classes scheduled with no teacher. Even better was that it was clear that the students were unable to attend them. Even with these 2 factors the class was passed and the students moved on. Many times because the school plays games with teachers hours and pay they simply did not have an instructor at all to teach the class. So the students sat alone while a supervisor 'checked the roll' and then left for the night. Many times whole programs had unqualified teachers including the supervisor!!!

Because the school's Directors turn over so fast (5 in 5 years) they are always off management wise not to mention they are never present to deal with immediate issues. It gets worse when a Director 'micro-manages' and not only isnt there to follow through... They dont know what in the world they are talking about!!! It gets better! Some directors stole from the school! They leave and then the new director comes in and clamps down acting like something is going to change... Sadly it just gets worse.... They just declare more things that will be lost and more hassles for staff. Trifling things like no water provided and no student events... Then when morale cant get any lower they wander around pointing out things that are wrong in classes but the root cause is the lack of support from corporate or management.

But WAIT! There is more! Its a school so well teaching should be important right? WRONG!!! They dont background check anyone. On several occasions there were actually crazy people teaching classes at a campus. They had no qualifications (some were simply made up) and had severe issues to the point that students constantly complained about the odd behavior. Nothing like a teacher going to sleep in a classroom or sitting outside talking to themselves loudly.

Bottom line: Be Warned this is not a school to get Career skills from. You will spend far less money attending classes at a community college at night and will get a far better education. These skills are paper mills and have nothing real to offer.

Having been in the company for several years I can make some valid points. The instructors teaching classes have little or no knowledge in the classes they are given to teach. Some dont even know the class they will be teaching until the day classes begin! How is that for preperation?

The fun fact is because the school refuses to pay anywhere near a industry scale they have very few qualified instructors and the ones that are there if good will not be there long. What you will see are people running around asking for materials that they dont need or they get stuck in a class and have no idea how to even start the program on the computer.

A simple question to the 'coordinator' of the computer program will not get help as he has little knowledge in his program either. How can a person run a program that has Visual Basic, Web Design and C++ have no related training, degree or skills much less any instructor with background in it?

If you go through the campus you will see empty classrooms, broken computers, broken chairs and students with 'stand-in' insturctors. This is because there is a serious disconnect between the management and the staff. The management has no communication skills or management skills. They just walk around every once in a while and post what the school will not pay for or a new 'rule'.
They have a library that is simply old textbooks the school does not use anymore. They have a copier that may have been used 60 times in the past year. A simple pass through the magazines and newspapers tells the story as they are over 6 months to a year old. (its too far to walk to put newer ones in from the lobby)

Students learn classes that are out of date with software that is out of date. They had Windows 98 still running in a large classroom up until June of 2007! It was more important to put a 42 inch LCD TV in the lobby that sits most of the time turned off (most of 2007). They use medical software that doesnt work and no one knows how to make it work nor does the coordinator deal with it. (their help always just says it works)... Why would a basic internet class begin with Dreamweaver and then for advanced go to HTML?

Why is the facility allowed to look like a 50 year old abandoned building. Roof tiles rotting and collapsing. Sewage pumpling across the parking lot into the woods (illegal? no one cares). Walls missing the bottoms from the 'floods'. Monitors that buzz from water going in them when it rains. An elevator that smells like the sewer water is in the shaft. Offices with carpet that was never cleaned after the 'flood' so they smell of mold. No water for students (once was provided but discontinued for useage?!?) Teachers copy machines that never work. Furniture that looks like it was purchased from a junkyard (saying a lot!)

The simplest answer is the corporate management doesnt care as long as the loan money is flowing in. They have had 6 directors in 5 years! How is that stable? Maybe there needs to be some standards? 3 were fired. 2 were promoted and the latest one is worthless. He has done not one thing to improve the situation at the campus. Matter of fact he has made things WORSE.
