 On March 29th of 2013 I went to a small dealership here in Lubbock called Big Joes Auto with the intent to purchase a cash car. I had a low budget and was 7 months pregnant at the time so I neede to get a car to get to the hospital when I needed and for mmy husband to get back and forth to work. I noticed this blue 2004 Dodge Stratus on the lot for 2800. It had obvious cosmetic damage ( a sunburnt top), but I was not worried about it. We asked about the car and Allen, our car dealer, informed us of the amount of money they put in to the car to fix it ($1800) as well as told us that it is in great condition and is a great deal. We took the car for a test drive, just about a block, and it was okay. When we got back to the lot we wanted to haggle on the price and the owne went down to $2300. He did not want to go down because he claimed he put alot of money in to fixing the car and that he was making no profit off of it. He went on to explain how he would go down on the price because he saw that we really needed transportation. He said that he had repaired the motor as well as the thermostat was replaced. He said he repaired everything. Before we left the dealership he suggested we get our inspection done right down the street from the shop because they have a good price ($15 intsead of the usual $25 to $35 in my area) so we agreed to do that once it opened.

When we were driving home the car began to smoke. I was worried and wanted to call but my husband suggested it may just need coolant so we went to buy some. It seemed to be fine after putting coolant in it plus we never drove very much. Three days past and it started to smoke again so we just put more of the coolant. After this we started to have to put coolant in it more often and it would overheat so easily so I called Allen and informed him of this. At that point I was very worried because it was leaking and everything. Allen informed me that they would give me $500 to get the problem fixed. I have a mechanic in my family and he is who I wanted to fix the vehicle and upon his inspection of the vehicle he told me that the engine was full of something called liquid glass. He informed me that the purpose of liquid glass is to make the vehicle last long enough to get to a mechanic to fix the real problem. When I found this out I called Allen and he told me they did not know about this. I asked him wouldnt this be something that the mechanic wouldve easily detected!? He changed the subject and just started explaining to me how he does not know the process of how they work and that is not his area. I asked if I could return the car, I only had it one day before it started acting up and ten days before I could no longer drive it at all. He said that the money they gave us was plenty to fix the vehicle. It was far from plenty because the whole engine was completely ruined and needed to be replaced. They did nothing to help me, I had no transportation to have my baby and my husband had no transportation for working and this put us in a bad spot. We were out $2595.22 and now the car just sits in the mechanics storage facility and there are storage fees. I can do nothing with this vehicle!

I have definetely learned from this experience! Thank you, I will not get ripped off by another person, I just trust too easily and I guess since I am a sincere pereson I believe fake senserity from others. It is so sad to me that people just have no morals!

 The big problem with buying these cars AS IS, these people will tell you anything and I'm completely blown away that they even gave you 500 bucks towards the problem. Also if you know nothing about a car you should have taken the family mechanic with you. Next time you buy one, drive that sucker around for  30 or 40 minutes to let it heat up good and preferably in town, and then check all of the fluids to see if anything is going on.

  I realize none of this helps you with your problem, but an education is priceless, and believe no one.

  I am sorry if I offended you consumer, this was my first car purchase and I had no guidance. I was also very desperate and had to walk very far to get  to the place so it was not thought through. Next time, keep the rudeness to yourself.

One block. Yup, that's a thorough test.

"Allen, our car dealer... told us that it is in great condition and is a great deal."

That is a great deal because a used car salesman would only speak the truth.

Fortunately the family mechanic inspected the vehicle prior to purchase. He helped you avoid a $2600 loss.
