Rip Off - Mechanics at Big O Tires of Henderson NV completely destroyed my 2001 Jeep Cherokee that I bought at Towbin Dodge of Henderson NV.
I own a defense contracting business called BlackMotor Corporation. We build IP controlled vehicles for the military.

I purchased a 2001 Jeep Cherokee from Towbin Dodge of Henderson NV. This vehicle passed a 101 point inspection and had no fluid leaks. It ran very smooth and quiet. The only thing that it needed was fluid change and a CV boot replaced.

The day I purchased the vehicle I took it to Big O Tires of Henderson NV. The jeep was in the shop for about 5 days. We asked Big O Tires of Henderson NV to service the fluid, change the spark plugs, tune the engine, charge the air conditioning, replace the transmission filter kit, replace the brake pads and rotors and repair both CV boots.

The first repair was $1694.59 USD. The second repair was $1537.61 USD. The total cost for repairs was $3232.20

2001 Jeep Cherokee that I bought at Towbin Dodge of Henderson NV. was $7300.00. Tax, tile, insurance and plates cost $689.00.

The grand total invested in the 2001 Jeep Cherokee that I bought at Towbin Dodge of Henderson NV. was $11,221.20

Within two weeks after the repairs performed by Big O Tires of Henderson NV. The Jeep's transmission completely gave out. I was stranded in 111' weather. The Jeep was nothing more than garbage.

We have an in house mechanic. He is the automotive engineer. Due to the amount of work we perform as a defense contractor we decided to have Big O Tires of Henderson NV. perform the necessary work to save time. This vehicle was purchased to pull our mobile data centers that we lease to government agencies.

When we purchased the vehicle from Towbin Dodge they disclosed the CV boot was torn. Towbin Dodge was excellent to deal with. They gave us a very good deal on a near perfect 2001 Jeep Cherokee.

We took the Jeep immediately to Big O Tires of Henderson NV. After several days of waiting and hassle we picked the Jeep up. I noticed a rather large transmission fluid leak under the vehicle. When I asked the manager about it. He told me that he could take a look at it if I brought it back for a third time.

The pictures tell the story.

Further damage

You can visit our website at www.bigotires.biz we own the website. It has all the details and photos.

I have a photo of the eazy out that took the broken bolt out. We had the pan removed. The filter kit was not changed. The filter was the original from the dealershipin Canada. This jeep came from BC and was very well maintained with a long history of service records. Not repairs but general maintenance like oil changes, fuel filters and transmission fluid changes.

Once we took the pan off it was evident that the filter was not changed. It was manufactured in Canada and matched the dealer recipt number from previous work in Canada. The filter here in the US have different marking. The Canadian filter has numbers that are diffrent due to thier environmental and provincial tax.

We discovered the filter was not changed, the gasket had been beaten into the lip of the pan and the bolt broken off with a power wrench. I would assume they broke the bolt then pushed the gasket into the inner aprt of the pan making it leak.

The CV boot was another issue. Do you need to take the pan off the transmission to replace the CV boot. If yes then the pan was removed but the filter was not changed. The CV boot road off the mount in about two days. It would flop and make a thump noise.

The final issue is the razor cuts in the water hose. Their were small deep incisions. They almost went through the hose. After time they start to spray a tiny amount of water.

The fact is this Jeep was cherry except for the CV boot that needed replaced. Once Big O finished with it the Jeep was agrbage. It ran very loud due to the exhaust being removed and not put back on. It got horrible gas milage. Although Jeeps are pigs to begin with. This one would get 5 to8 mile per gallon.

The Jeep was sold for $1000.  The person who bought it still has it up on blocks. The entire Quadra Drive is shot.

Thanks for your input. The Jeep is now dead. We got hosed.

Master Mechanic Jim here

sorry but the previous poster is both right and wrong, It looks to me that they replaced the transmission pan with a power wrench Breaking off the bolt that's a  poor mechanic.

You MUST remove the trans oil pan to replace the filter so the screwdriver scrape is entirely normal, (I use a special very thin gasket scraper) and as they used Silicone sealer will NOT usualy cause a leak as the silicone fills all small scrapes completely, the real problem is that a power wrench was used to tighten the pan, it's bent (And leaking).

The next statement that it's only out of fluid is flat wrong, when the fluid is low the internal clutches slip and burn (Not enough pressure to keep them engaged, Not enough oil to cool them) that causes the trans to need an Overhaul, refilling with oil will NOT make it GO again.

All you need is a tranny overhaul (For god's sake use a dealership and not a tranny place) they'll drill out the broken bolt and reseal it correctly, straighten the pan lip (Part of the normal tranny overhaul) and the truck will be as good as new, then MAKE THEM PAY FOR THE REPAIR, it's plain the tranny failure was entirely the mechanic's fault who changed the filter.

The Jeep was from Canada. So your heat theory is out the window.

The manager had us remove the Jeep twice from the lot due. Once when we first took it in for complete fluid and repairs. They did not have the parts so they had us take the Jeep home because they could not leave it parked in their lot over night.

You obviously know nothing about Jeep Grand Cherrokees with Quadra drive. This is the very top end in Jeeps. The Jeep broke while on the way back to Big O Tires. The transmission completely smoked out traffic. The clutch packs, star gears and Quadra drive were completely destroyed.

It does not matter because we will mercilessly pursue this. We are having flyers, people with sandwich boards and other advertisement going out Monday. I am going to make this my personal job to see this place closed down.

Not mentioned in the report is the way they treated a black man that had a flat tire.

A black gentleman came into Big O Tires with a tire that was flat. The tire was under warranty. They treated him rudely and tried to sell him a tire for $127.00. When he left the shop steaming mad he became the but of all jokes all day. While I was in the waiting room remarks such as "Good by to Black Rubbage..." and "wonder who's car he stold that from..." was said. Was the remarks racialy motivated? Yes they were. If the person who was in there that day reads this call the NAACP on them. There was a very rich white lady in there with her Cadillac. She was treated like a queen. They were ripping her off also. This was her 5th visit. However she was not concerned.

Contact the NAACP at www.NAACP.org Las Vegas Office Executive Director: Gary Peck ACLU of Nevada 732 South Sixth Street, Suite 200A Las Vegas, NV 89101 Phone: 702-366- 1226 aclunv@aclunv.org www.aclunv.org

We are going in them deep. We will relentlessly hound these people. For one year I have tried to get this resolved. Now we will get some justice. Our company is flush with cash. We are going to sart a class action lawsuit against Big O Tires. It will be filled in Federal (not local) court on Monday. I am also working close with the NAACP to help close this rip off bigot motivated scam shop.

We own our own data center. Millions of tweets, MySpace, FaceBook and YouTube files are being created. We are going to hammer these guys hard without rest. That is something you can bank on.

How is the Jeep "completely destroyed"?

All I see is the loss of transmission fluid, and a bolt.

The bolt can be easily removed, the hole cleaned up, and a new bolt installed. The way to remove the pan is with a screwdriver, or prybar. Clean it up, put new silicone on it, and put it back together.

The instant the transmission fluid leaked out to the point pressure could not be maintained, the clutch packs released. There is little damage, if any, to the clutches themselves from this. Any damage done is due to the transmission having 10 years of Nevada heat working against it.

You never should have driven the Jeep off the parking lot knowing full well there was a problem.
