I have encountered an "Alice In Wonderland" situation where a meassurement means what THEY say it means at the Blinds House.
I ordered an inside mount window blind 45 1/2 inches wide by 72 inches long from the www.blindshouse.com internet site. My printed order confirmation page clearly shows the order as "1 window blind - 45 1/2 in. x 72 in." The delivered window blind measures exactly 45 inches wide!

When contacted about the error a company rep stated there was no mistake, that on an inside mount a 45 in. blind is what you get when you order a 45 1/2 in. blind. S/he stated it is an "industry standard" to take 1/2 in. off the submitted measurement.

As I pointed out to the rep, nowhere on the website of www.blindshouse.com is it stated that 1/2 in. will be taken off the ordered size. The rep refused a requested refund on the blind and instead offered a 30% "oops discount" off a new order.

I declined the offer, stating that I ordered a 45 1/2 in. wide blind, that my order confirmation was for a 45 1/2" wide blind and that any normal person under these circumstances would expect to receive a blind that is 45 1/2 in. wide.

What she fails to mention

AUTHOR: Ann - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 12, 2008

What this person fails to mention, is that when you order for inside mount blinds, you are and she was, instructed to give the window measurement, NOT the size blind you want. It doesn't matter who she'd have ordered these from, she'd have got the size she got.

Internet companies do all they can to provide enough information to allow customers to order correctly - but nothing is fool proof to the sufficiently talented fool.

Questions for the OP

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 11, 2008

You stated that you ordered INSIDE mount blinds for a window that is 45 1/2 inches wide, but they sent you 45 inch blinds.

When you take that 1/2 difference it is only a 1/4 inch on each side. Depending on the exact style of the mount that 1/4 could be the size of the mount. Which would mean that these are the correct blinds. I have several Inside mount blinds and actually checked a few and they are 1/2 inch shorter than the window, but it is not even noticed.

Did you even try to put them in the windows?

It does not seem like asking for a refund was justified. And NO I do not work for(or actually have ever heard of) this company.

Failure to follow simple instructions

AUTHOR: Blinds House - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 11, 2008

This customer is blaming her mistake on our company. If she would have followed our simple measuring instructions then her blind would have been made correctly.

She ordered an inside mount blind. When a customer orders inside mount, ALL manufacturers will build the blind to fit the size window specified. That being said the factories take proper deductions so the blinds fit within the size window specified. Our measuring instructions clearly state:

Take NO deductions.

and

The factory will take proper deductions to fit the size window you specify.

This customer made the mistake of taking her own deductions instead of giving us the window frame dimensions asked for.

She is asking us to replace her blinds at no charge for a mistake she made. This is the policy for all online window covering websites and all websites use the same measuring instructions.
