Blizzard implemented a Real Money Auction House for their new game Diablo 3, which lets you buy in-game items with Real money.

I purchased about $800 worth of equipment that had some of the best stats you can get in the game, most of it was perfect IAS gear (increased attack speed).

About 3 days after I made this purchase, I logged into see that most of my gear I bought was changed and now worth less than I paid for it. My character was now useless and I am now the proud owner of $800 worth of useless equipment for my character.

No notice was given to me that these items would be changed days after I bought them. No email was sent to my account saying any changes were happening.

No compensation was given. Customer support for the game pretty much told me to go (((REDACTED FOUL LANGUAGE))) myself because I had clicked "I Agree" on their T.o.S. and E.u.L.a when I laughed the game. Apparently this long contact, which nobody reads, stats that they can change any item at any time without any notice.

Their box does not say you have to agree to these things when you buy it at the store. So you get home and are FORCED to sign these if you want to play. They have a ToS and EULA (terms of service / end user licensing agreement) that you are forced to agree to just to play, even if you already paid $60 for a game.

---

What players are doing is finding the best item stats that give the best possible damage for your character. Blizzard knows these item stats are valuable and people will pay Real money to get them, so their characters can beat the game. Once enough people have bought these items with these stats, they change the stats so they are not good anymore.. and now this leaves players looking for items with other stats to get the best damage.

This is fraud and a scam. They will keep changing items people already bought just so they have to go buy more items.

Do not play Diablo 3. You can not find good items on your own and the only way to win is to buy items from their Real Money Auction House. Then they will change those items and make them useless do you have to buy more.

You're being silly and unrealistic....

...first of all, anyone who spends $800 on imaginary items in an imaginary world needs a reality check, I think. Second, anyone who gets involved in a pay-to-win game is wasting their time. Third, the game can be completed without buying stuff from the RMAH. Fourth, Blizzard can do whatever they want with the game, it's their prerogative. I suggest you try a different game if you're not happy with it. I quit playing it a few days after it came out and it became obvious how flawed it was.

You do not need to use the RMAH in order to play the game. Its just for lazy people who don't want to grind out their own gear. You can play all of diablo 3 without using either auction house, you just have to play it a lot.

All online computer games have terms of use these days. ALL OF THEM. Every single manufacturer will reserve the right to change items as they see fit. You should also go look and see if you own the items. Even though you paid real money for them, you do not own the items or your character. Blizzard does. Items that have changed have been for game balance. They want the game to be fair, they don't want things to be overpowered and unbalanced. Also, they did announce they were changing things. The patch notes for 1.03 have been up for several weeks. They detail in there that they are adjusting items, bosses, and difficulty of the game. Your items have been reduced in power, but so have many of the bosses and inferno mode has had a large nerf.

No ripoff here, there's no requirement to take part in the RMAH to play the game.
