Myself and my editor had commissioned Blue Fox-productions to do sound design on a short film. The work was urgent and upon agreeing on the terms, we have paid 50% deposit on the work to be done.

I have then sent the company an email requesting that before the work start they should answer a few questions about the story, it's meaning, the style of the work etc, but this email was left unanswered. Here is the exact email:

"OK, I will be in London in just a few days, so let's meet next week and discuss it, and hold everything until then.

I want to ask you to write me your impression of the film, what it meant to you, what you liked and what you didn't like...  I need to know that we are on the same space before we actually start working together, maybe your vision is very different than mine? Who knows. So I need some feedback about the film.... please?"

THE EMAIL WAS LEFT UNANSWERED. Instead - they have started to work on what they claimed to be a "draft" sound design without discussing the very important questions which we've asked them, questions which were meant to help us to explain to the sound designer our requirements.

When my editor and I received the "draft" sound design we were utterly shocked. The draft "sound design" was consistent of adding only a few tracking of music, which were completely unrelated to the story, the style or the original vision, to less than 30% of the film's scenes. The quality of the work was that of a first term film student, we didn't know if to laugh or cry. This is a very high production and the quality of the work on the sound design was in sharp contract to the rest of the piece.

When speaking with the sound designer, she apologized and suggested to refund the money paid. Because I'm a nice guy I've decided to give them another chance, this time explaining EXACTLY what I wanted and asked for this to be applied to just one scene.

The result was sub par and at this point I've asked for a refund. The company decided to still charge me for the "draft" that they prepared, despite the work being at a lower the student level, was not applied to the whole film, and only consistent of music tracks and no other elements, a job that would take no more than 2-3 hours (at most) to complete. I've agreed for a refund of £75 out of courtesy but they've one sidedly refunded the payment minus £150, the cost of a full "draft".

I would highly recommend avoiding working with this company.
