BOATERS BEWARE OF BLUE WATER YACHT CLUB IN MERRICK, NY!!!!
The location is this marinas only saving grace.
I can't understand why anyone would want to keep their boat at Blue Water Yacht Club in Merrick. Since this marina had been taken over by GARYS MARINE SERVICE run by Gary and his family, they have completely lost sight that they are in business because of the people that bring their boats their for service or year round docking and storage.
Blue Water Yacht Club - AKA:
Leeward Ventures Limited
Gary's Marine Service
OSM Service Center Inc
North Atlantic Marine Service
This marina is said to be a FULL SERVICE Marina. What does that mean? It means that if you keep your boat there, they feel they are entitled to do anything and everything that pertains to the upkeep or maintenance, including detailing. Petty and cheap, they will nickel and dime you constantly.
Have a WARRANTY??? GREAT!!! They seem to think that they are "factory authorized" to do the unexpected repairs on a new boats malfunction. They will NOT let your DEALER step foot on their property. I swear they are worse than an organized crime family.
NEWER BOAT OWNERS READ THIS CAREFULLY!!!
Why do people buy new? Because they don't want breakdowns. Keep your boat at BLUE WATER YACHT CLUB and you can expect at the start of a new season after having your boat winterized, you will mysteriously have engine trouble. Why? They like to put the blame on "ethanol". But it's ok - good thing your at a "Full Service Marina" because they can fix it, at the low low price of whatever you have left in your wallet.
For what some people spend on annual property taxes, you can keep your boat at this marina, but expect to be treated like a piece of trash. The young brat that runs the office is Gary's daughter Kelly. It is almost as if Kelly's role model was Leona Helmsley. She has no patience and speaks down to customers - absolutely miserable.
Kelly's "boyfriend" Justin is the Yard Manager. Justin is worse than a cheap used car salesman. Once he gets started with an explanation as to why something is broken or not working, take a seat put on your boots and grab a shovel! When it comes to their billing, you have to triple check what your being charged for. I can assure you there will be charges added that don't apply to your vessel or the service provided!
The only people that have any sense of how to be friendly or courteous to the marinas customers are the underpaid/overworked employees that actually keep the marina running.
This definitely is the place to go, if you want to feel like you just got screwed by a high priced hooker. At Blue Water Yacht Club, it comes down to the all mighty dollar, not good old fashion values.
NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY!!!!
TAKE YOUR BOAT ELSEWHERE and save yourself aggravation.

Well, I also have to disagree with the OP. 2010 will be the 5th season that I have kept my boat at BWYC, and I have never had a problem with Gary, Justin, Kelly, or any other member of the staff. I find them to be nice and helpful. I'm sorry you didn't have the same experience. Did you ever have a conversation with Gary about your concerns?I know he's very hands on in running his business, and would want to hear anything a dissatisfied customer would have to say.

let me just start off by saying blue water yacht club is A-1 & the family who runs it are the nicest people you will ever deal with!!!! i have had my boat in this marina for 4 years now and would never think of going else where why would i the marine service is excelent and affordably priced "no extra suprises in your bill" and justin is a helpfull and excelent mechanic not to mention a real stand up guy! As for the marina it is one of the nicest around well maintained ,landscaped in general 1000% taken care of in every way all i have to say is who ever wrote that about these people and their maria must not know anything about them their marina or their family because if they did they would have a verrrrrrrrrrrrry diffrent opinion of them like the 200 or so of us that dock our boats their year in and year out..join the yachting & fishing family at bluewater yacht club you will not be dissapointed but love the neighborly ,family atmosphere sincerly FF

MORE MARINAS NEED TO BE LIKE BLUE WATER YACHT CLUB
AUTHOR: Pete R. - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Saturday, October 25, 2008
I am a boat owner for over 30 years. I have had boats at several marinas throughout the East Coast. Recently, a few of my friends were meeting me (to go fishing one day) at Blue Water Yacht Club, where I keep my boat for the last ten years. My friends searched the net/web to get directions and found the report attached here on Blue Water Yacht Club. I sincerely felt the need to rebutt this report.
I own a MAKO boat which I had bought brand new several years ago. I had some problems with the boat after purchasing it. GARY's Marine Service which had nothing to do with the purchase or the waranty assisted me tremendously in getting the initial kinks out of the boat, and never asked for a cent. Eventually, it was realized that some of the poor performance issues had to be resolve by MAKO at the factory. When we sent the boat back to the factory, I was given a loaner boat that was larger than the boat I purchased. This meant I needed a larger slip. BLUE WATER and Gary gave me a larger slip, while the factory repaired my boat. Oh Yeah, Gary never charged me a cent for the larger slip.
I also am a business owner and I coach athletics at the collegiate level. So, I am a fairly busy person. The reason I write this is because I usually am late getting my leisure life in order. I consistently pay my marina bill late. I must say that every time I walk into the BLUE WATER YACHT CLUB office I feel like a college kid coming home for the holidays. Kelly greets me with a big smile and a sincere "How is everything". Kelly is a sweetheart and yet a serious business woman who has a tough job. She has to collect money from people like me who are never on time, and yet she is always smiling.
My boat is now nearly ten years old and I leave it entirely in Justin's hands all year round. Justin is a sincere youg man who seems to have a talent for understanding things that seem like nuclear fusion to me. He has a keen sense of who uses their boats for what, and how they treat them. He then kows how to address any problems or issues that arise, and as far as normal winterizing and summerizing he has given me advice that has saved me hundreds of dollars. I have never had to do more than I thought was needed to get my boat ready, and I owe that to Justin's awareness.
I have been at other marinas in both NY (L.I.) as well as other states. The BLUE WATER YACHT CLUB is a family, and they have treated me better than I could ask. I would put the service and hospitality of The BLUE WATER YACHT CLUB above any other marina I have docked my boat, or that I am familar with. I sincerely hope that anyone who takes time to write negative and nasty comments try and take some quiet time out of their own lives, to revisit their motives and their own leisure time. There are so many things people can do, these days, with leisure time, rather than thinking bad thoughts or writing negative reports on people that are honest and work so hard.
