So, the story begins......
I bought my second Mitsubishi Eclipse from Bob Rorhman. My first eclipse was great (bought it in Florida)- I put 100,000 miles on it, and never put a dime into it! (just oil changes, and routine stuff) Never even had to replace the brakes!! It was a real workhorse for me.

So I purchased my second eclipse in Nov. 2003. My first problem occured about a year 1/2 later- suddenly, I had unexplained water in my car! It seemed to be concentrated on the drivers side, and only affected the floor- not the seats. So, I take it to my dealer-thinking this might be covered by me extended warranty (actually, at this point my actual warrnty might still have been active). So, after playing with my car they tell me that a seal on my side mirror was bad, and allowing the water in to my car. So, obviously this will be covered under my warranty-right?? Oh, no- even though there is no damage to my car, and I have not been in any accidents this will not be covered. So to the tune of around $400, they replace my mirror. Oh, and they also don't even offer to detail my car for the water damage-and I did ask them to!!

So, imagine my surprise when the next time it rains- water in my car AGAIN!!! So I take it back in (fuming mad at this point!). They inspect the car, and decide that one of the sun roof drains is blocked, and that is why it leaked. Really??!! They didn't check that before?! And are we sure that wasn't the problem all along!!

I will add that at least this time, they detailed the carpet that was affected by the second flood-very generous.

So, on to the next drama. A year ago, my brakes started making some noise-so I called the dealer to get a price on new brakes. They quoted me around $350-$400, if I didn't need rotors. I called the local Midas, and they said they could do the job for about half the price- so off I go to Midas.

Just recently, I started to notice a vibration when I braked. I had my car at the dealer for an insurance related claim, and mentioned the vibration to the service department. They tell me that my rotors are warped, and that they need to be replaced- to the tune of $400. So once again, off to Midas I go!!

The same day, I take my car over to Midas and had them check it out. They told me that the rotors were in rough shape, but that they could machine them- for $20 a rotor. Cool!!

Ughhhhh! I understand that they make their money by performing services, but do I have to feel like they are completing ripping me off every time I go in there!! This will be my last Mitsubishi, (and I was looking at the new redesigned eclipses!) and for the most part it is because of this dealer!!

Midas may have over-tightened your wheel lugnuts

AUTHOR: Friendly Help - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 19, 2008

Can you find the owner's manual? Look thru the various specification data tables, and/or under ''wheel changing'' or ''tire changing''. You should find a recommended wheel lugnut torque. Usually it will be something like '78 ft-lbs'. You use a clicking torque-wrench for setting this torque.

Impact wrenches are used to REMOVE wheel lugnuts. The folk at Midas may have tightened your lugnuts with an impact wrench. This quickie shortcut can result in a lugnut torque of, say, 200 ft-lbs which WILL cause your brake rotors to warp when normal braking heats the rotor(s).

So if you have Midas replace your rotors you may have more warped rotors.

Dealer service

AUTHOR: Dumbblondie - (U.S.A.)

Dealership service is always going to cost you more. What you should take into consideration that they are trained to work specifically on your make of vehicle. I am not sure why they would charge 400.00 for turning the rotors. Now if they said they needed replaced, is is because they would have been below specifications?

I know that most of the tech's working there have been working on Mitsubishi's for years and I would highly recommend them.

Also, there is a lot of stop and go traffic in the Chicago area. I know this because I lived there. I wore my brakes on my eclipse at about 30k miles because of the traffic there. (Wore my clutch out too)

Midas hires people like walmart does...Be careful, sometimes you get what you pay for.
