we arranged to have our vintage TR3 painted and selected the top job, described as three coats or paint, overcoat and comnplete cleanup of the car. When we went to pick up the car, the interior was filthy and the exterior was covered with dust. The manager said that he was not required to "detial" the car and refused to let us drive it away until we paid the full priace.

Repeated letters to national Earl Schieb headquarters were ignored. The BBB said they could do nothing about this.

We had heard that Early Scheib was financially on the ropes, and this kind of treatment explains why.

I went to McDonalds. I was promised a wonderful dining experience. All I got was a burger, fries and a drink on a tray. I was very disappointed. A "top notch job" at Earl Scheib? On a vintage TR3. I don't think so. When I drive down the road and I see an older car with a crappy new paint job, what do I think? EARL SCHEIB. The least they could have done was dusted it off and vacuumed it.

Just kidding. How lomg did you wait from the time it was done to the time you went to pick it up? A day? A week? More? I repair cars. If the customer wants it cleaned and polished afterwards, they can pay for that service. Otherwise, I will do what I can to prevent the vehicle from getting greasy. If it collects dust, not uncommon here on Earth, too bad. I do get some customers cars completely detailed though. They are the ones who don't expect it AND spend fat $$ to do the repair jobs. I have a 60 Desoto in the shop right now.

He'll spend over $1500 on brakework and get his car back looking all shiny and pretty. Just out of curiosity, why did you think you'd even get a decent paint job from Earl Scheib? This is the company that advertises "any car, any color, $99". They paint over anything that YOU haven't already stripped off or masked over. A decent paint job on a daily driver will run about $2000. A show car is considerably more than that. MAACO sucks just as bad as Scheib, but at least they do the masking for you.
