Recently a loan application was applied for with Chase Finance Company from Brandt Auto Brokers, 633 Cobb Parkway North, Marietta, GA 30062 for a 1999 Ford Mustang GT on my behalf. When I bought the car on Saturday, August 13, 2005 I traded in a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle GLS that I owed 1950.00 toward.

I was given 4000.00 for my trade-in and explained to Mr. Todd Nowak, my car dealer, that I needed reliable transportation because I was about to start back school. After looking at a few different cars I decided that I liked this particular one. Mr. Nowak told me that it was in great condition and we agreed to go ahead with the purchase.

After viewing my credit I was asked to place a down payment of 300.00 which I did by debit card so that my payments would be where I needed. I was told that a finance company would contact me soon to verify the information that I had given the car dealership and then I was told by Mr. Nowak that I should tell the finance company I made 2100.00 a month and that I am a Customer Service Representative. Both of these are false and I was not comfortable with lying to a finance company.

When I bought the car I informed Mr. Nowak that I was going to take the car and have it looked at by a mechanic. I was told by Mr. Nowak that he had his mechanic look at the car and I didn't need to take it to a mechanic. The first night I had it I realized that the interior lights were out so I couldn't see how fast I was going or any of the other gages. I also noticed that the digital odometer was blinking on and off.

First thing Monday morning I took the car to a mechanic who ran a diagnostic on the car and it came back that there were multiple problems with the car including missing AC caps, evidence that the front end of the car seemed to have been wrecked, some basic wear and tear items, low oil that was dirty, brakes that were low, and a seepage in the rear. I called the dealership as soon as I found out this information and was asked to bring the car back to the dealership so they could look at it.

I took the car to the dealership Monday afternoon and was told by Mr. Nowak and another dealer named Richard that they would look at the main problems with the car and definitely fix the light problem and the seepage. I was also told it was against company policy to loan me a car while I waited for mine to be ready. The next day, Tuesday, I received a phone call saying that the mustang wasn't going to be ready and I could pick up a different car until mine was.

When I got to the dealership I was then told that my car had just come in and that they had fixed the light problem and showed me a box where the electrical unit had malfunctioned. I was then told by Mr. Nowak that the seepage in the back couldn't be fixed and wasn't a problem. I left with the car and when I got home and pulled into my parking deck I realized the lights were still not working and that the odometer was still blinking on and off.

I called the dealership and they said that I could bring the car back and they would have it looked at again. I informed Mr. Richard that this wasn't the kind of transportation I was interested in and asked if there was any way I could purchase a different car that was more reliable or get my car and 300.00 dollars back. He said that he couldn't help me with that but that he could have the car looked at again and asked when I could bring it back. I told him that I had to work that afternoon and he said that whenever I could bring it in would be fine.

When I got back in the car to go to work I noticed the odometer blink off and realized that when it came back on a few minutes later that the mileage hadn't changed. That night I wrote down the mileage when I got out of the car and put it on the dashboard. I emailed the Better Business Bureau to inform them of my situation thus far. When I turned the car back on the odometer was out and when it clicked on a few miles down the road the mileage had not changed from the night before. This concerned me because that would mean that the mileage on this car was incorrect.

I had to work Wednesday morning and contacted a friend of mine Mrs. Edna Dawkins, and asked her for advice on what I should do about the situation with the odometer. She accompanied me back to the dealership Wednesday afternoon to question the salesman on the car. This time Todd was there along with Mr. Mark Brandt. Todd was persistent on telling us that it was just an illumination problem and that the odometer was still counting miles even when it was off. I had witnessed otherwise so I knew that all the miles on the car was not being counted.

Edna and I sat down to talk with Mr. Nowak and Mr. Brandt about the car and came to the conclusion that the car should be taken to a certified Ford dealership and looked at from top to bottom and the results should be presented to me. The dealership agreed to do so.

Thursday morning I was contacted by Madeline Moon at Chase finance to verify the information on the loan. I informed Ms. Moon that the information I was told to give her was false and that I wasn't interested in a loan for this car. Ms. Moon told me that the loan would be processed based on the information that they had. I told her that the information the car dealership gave her was false and that I wasn't comfortable lying about my personal information. She told me that she would inform the dealership that the loan would not be approved because I had stated that the information was false.

A few minutes later my manger, Thacker Thurman, received a call from I assume Madeline describing a check stub that she had received stating that I made a certain amount of money. Thacker said that it didn't sound like a pay stub from my company and asked if she could fax it over to verify. We received a fax of a check stub with my name and social security number on it that was absolutely false. I had never seen this piece of paper before. Thacker called back to confirm that it was a false stub and Madeline thanked him and hung up.

I called Edna to inform her of what I had just found out and she told me I should document everything that has happened thus far. When I returned home that evening I had a few messages from Mr. Richard asking me to contact the dealership. Friday morning Mr. Mark Brandt left a message for me at 10:15 saying that if I didn't have the loaner back by the end of the business day that it would be reported stolen.

When I arrived at the dealership with the car I was told by Mr. Brandt that I didn't know what I was getting myself into and that I would have to pay 265.50 for the miles on the mustang while I had it or else they would place a repo on my credit and would keep my beetle. I paid the 265.00 so I could get my car back. This is the best of my recollection. I feel that I have been manipulated and taken advantage of and would like this situation resolved soon with the return of my 265.00 and a letter of apology from the dealership.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!

#2 Consumer Suggestion

I am confused.....

AUTHOR: Tom - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 23, 2006

You first reported that the dealer suggested that you did not need to take the car to an independant mechanic, falsified information on your application, tried to to stiff you on the fees, threatened to report you to the police, threatend to put a repo report on your record, possibly illegally tampered with the odometer, etc. You see the pattern? And now all of a sudden you would recommend them to your friends and family?

Brandt Auto Brokers, Marietta, GA Excellent Customer Service

AUTHOR: William - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 22, 2006

After filing my recent report on Bad Business Bureau.com I was contacted by the owner of Brandt Auto Brokers. He apologized for the confusion and has offered to refund the money that I felt I was wrongfully charged. After hearing his explanation of the charges I can see things from his business stand point. Brandt Auto Brokers really stepped up to make a satisfied customer out of me and I really appreciate them. I would recommend them to my friends and family because of their one on one involvement.
