I hired Duane Brandt for a project, creating a drill bit to remove a special screw from some merchandise we have. He seemed confident enough with the project & told us he would have something by the next morning. I picked up the bits the next day (at $300!!!!) and they broke in a five minutes.

I called him to tell him I was unhappy about it. He was already rude at this point, saying "I WAS going to tell you to pick these new ones up, they'll be ready in 10 minutes." As if me saying I was unhappy my $300 bits breaking in five minutes was somehow the wrong thing to do??? I received the new ones and they also broke in a short amount of time.

Mind you, this guy apparently makes medical parts, so I expect he knows what he's doing. This is a job a skilled machinist would be capable of completing. They say they do reverse engineering all the time.

He refused to do any work unless we paid him $300 per round for him to continue making prototypes which likely wouldn't work (his ideas were awful & backwards).

AH, the clincher is when I called back after the 2nd set broke, he wouldn't take my call. I called back today and he finally took my call.

He wasn't budging or offering any explanation about why his workmanship was so shoddy. I was calm and did not attack him, I just wanted some answers.

 I told him I just wanted to make the situation right & the jerk responded with, "I know you think this is f**king Sears, but it's not!" I told him I did not think it was, I just want a product which works. He tells me there are no guarantees.

I let him know I believed this to be incredibly poor customer service and he hung up on me!!!

Unbelievable.

Just goes to show, even though he seemed legit, he was very unprofessional and incompetent.
