Buckmasters, LTD Still up to their same old tricks Montgomery Alabama

In early December of 2014 my wife entered me for a hunt of a lifetime sweepstakes sponsered by Buckmaster magazine, about 2 weeks later she recieved a call from them and at first she thought they were calling to tell me I had won since she was the one that answered the phone and she then handed it to me I did not hear any advisories about the call being recorded or such for quality purposes, I was greeted by a How Yal doing and how is your huntin season goin, our huntin season was over for a month, he then went on to say that I had made it through round one of the sweepstake entry process and then he started in on the hard sell pitch asking if I would be interested in a 5 year membership to Buckmaster magazine.

I politely told him that I was not interested and declined he then continued with the hard sell describing the free gifts they were gonna give me as a member and the magazine, I again declined, he then asked if it would be okay if he mailed the information to me and I could make up my mind at that time and I agreed and gave him my mailing address, before hanging up he asked if I would talk to his manager for "address" verification and I agreed.

  Once his manager picked up the phone the first thing he says is so you are interested in becoming a Buckmaster member and I told him I might be after I receive the information and review it, he was speaking very fast and I had trouble understanding him when he asked me if I would like to pay for the membership with a credit card, I told him I do not use credit cards and I do not conduct financial business over the telephone,I remember thinking to myself why is he asking for a credit card to send me information in the mail, he then said they would get the information out to me right away and hung up.

 On February, 7. 2015 I received an invoice from them for a 5 year membership of course by now I had forgotten all about it and just like everyone else my first inclination was to get on the phone and ream someone a new one, I had to wait until monday which was the 9th to call their member services number which I did and all total it took me 4.5 hours and I was hung up on twice before I actually was able to talk to a very rude person who basicaly told me to write cancel on the bill and mail it back to them. I did as I was told and mailed it back on the same day, I made copies of everything and sent it with delivery confirmation so I know they received it on 2/13.

 It is now March, 28. 2015 and a lot has transpired reguarding this incident and I am posting this for other people that have had this happen to them so they hopefully get the answers for what they can do about it.

#1 You receive an invoice that you know you didnt agree to. (Fight the urge to get on the the phone and set the record straight, you will get nothing but frustration and lies and waste your time, the people you are contacting are telemarketers that have been hired by Buckmasters to sell their products and relieve you of your money by any means necessary.)

#2 Go to Alabama BBB website and file a formal complaint, keep it breif and to the point and stick to the facts, 98% of these complaints are having these fraudulent memberships canceled by Buckmasters membership department without contesting.    In fact since I filed my complaint the BBB has now flagged this business for deceitful sales practices.

#3 Follow up with a complaint filed to the State of Alabama Attorney Generals Office, ( Just in case they decide to finally crack down on this business and get a class action suit going.)

#4 By NO means give these people any money, credit card or bank account information. They can not hurt your credit information unless they have your social security number, the Higher ups that I have spoke to at Buckmaster say that they do not report to any credit reporting agencys.

#5 By now you should be very familiar with the numbers they are using to call you from, when you see that number let it go to your answering machine (in most cases they hang up because they dont want to leave a recorded message that they attempted to call you, Hint Hint Harrasment.) and if you dont have an answering machine Dont Answer.

#6 When you file your complaint with the BBB make sure you tell them under Desired Resolution to clear your bill with 0 balance owing and to add your name and phone number to their No Call List.
