I bought a 67 Impala Convertible from Johnathan online sight unseen on June 26, 2018. I couldn't travel to Florida from NY to check out the car. I trusted Jonathan at his word when he said this car has no issues at all and is ready to go across Country. He stated this exactly in his ad as well and on the video he took of the car.

I also asked him verbally on the phone and by text about he Convertible top. Specifically asked him if the Top leaked at all. He stated " No I drove this car to Key West, put over 200 miles on the car got caught in the rain and it didn't leak."  So based on Jonathan's answers, and him repeatedly saying the car has no issues at all I bought the car. No issues to me means the car needs nothing, no repairs at all. Well that was far from the case!

When I received the car and drove it from where the Delivery truck dropped it off, I immediately noticed excessive play in the steering, and the car was hard to steer straight, Took it the very next day to my mechanic and put the car up on the lift to check it out. The car was delivered to me with 2 bad lower ball joints, a bad steering joint!

They all had to be replaced immediately as the car would NOT PASS the NYS Safety Inspection! Cost me over $600 dollars including a wheel alignment!  Then the Lokar shifter had problems and the car wouldn't shift correctly! Another $150 dollar repair. Then a week after receiving the car I take the car cross Country as Jonathan said the car was capable of doing, I actually went from NY to Myrtle Beach SC.

I got caught in some light rain in Maryland on the way down, and the Convertible Top IMMEDIATELY started to leak!! Then the Air Conditioning  leaked all over my feet from under the dashboard! Turns out the drainage tube for the A/C was disconected, and had been for quite a while as per my mechanic! Then on the way back to New York The car broke down and would not run!!

I had to rent a Uhaul with a trailer and TOW THE CAR HOME TO NY!! Total cost of all those repairs plus the Uhaul, $ 2000 dollars!! A total cost of $3890 in repairs! I informed Jonathan immediately about all of the ISSUES that were not supposed to exist according to him, and his advertisement! I told him he was a Liar, and that there was NO WAY he didn't know about any of theses issues!

Especially if he drove the car for 200 miles and got caught in the rain! For a car advertised as:  Fully restored and fully documented! This big powerful marina blue 67 Impala has every creature comfort you need including: power everything, cruise control, Ice cold A/C, fuel injection, power top, the list goes on!

This Impala will win car shows as it sits, and can be driven cross country with no issues at all. We have personally gone through this car and ensured all features work as they should. Please take a moment to view our walk around video. Yes, we performed a burnout, yes we floored it, yes it's still in one piece. We do this so you don't have issues in the future if it breaks when we do it, then there was a problem, allowing us to correctly fix it before you try to impress your neighbor and or buddies.

This car is solid and drives excellent, it does not leak a single drop of anything, there are no funny sounds. This was a total lie and false advertising!  Jonathan was well aware of all of these ISSUES when he sold me the car! He drove it for 200 Miles!! The car should't have needed over $2000 dollars in repairs!

I tried to work with Jonathan and asked him to cover Half the Cost of repairs. He refused, and wanted to give me $1000 Dollars! According to him, this was him being fare! The right thing for him to do was cover the TOTAL COST of the repairs!!  Buyers beware, Go see the car you are thinking of buying before you buy it! So you don't get taken advantage of like I did!! I also filed a Complaint with the Florida Better Business Bureau. Will probably end up in Small Claims Court Next!

I don't accept Jonathan's response because he is telling you the same misleading statements he told me before I purchased the car. For the record, Jonathan advertised this car as fully restored and documented.

Reading this ad, you would think it was done recently, when in fact this restoration was completed in December of 2006! Over 12 years ago!! And I did not receive any documentation with this car, other than some manuals of some of the parts used, and a CD with the pictures of the restoration.

There were NO Receipts for any of the components used, body work, engine/transmission purchase, etc. Jonathan false advertises this car in this ad! I paid Jonathan $42,000 Dollars for this car!! When paying $42,000 dollars for a car that is advertised as "Fully Restored", you Expect the car is in perfect condition, and is not going to need almost $3000 dollars in Repairs to pass a State safety inspection!!

Jonathan advertises that he went over the car completely and their are NO ISSUES. Well if that is the case, then why did this car come off the delivery truck immediately needing Ball Joints, and a Steering Joint?? He states he drove this car over 200 Miles, I noticed the bad steering immediately driving the car less than a mile!!

If he went over this car the way he advertises, it would not have needed this work done immediately! He also stated to me several times that the Convertible Top didn't leak when he drove it in the rain, nor when he washed it. This is another false statement! In the very first light rain storm I got caught in, the Top Leaked IMMEDIATELY!!

Looking at the weather stripping you could see it was worn. Jonathan says he washed the car, with no leaks, The driver side window was missing 2 inches of the weather stripping! Water immediately pours into the car where the weather stripping is missing! In the rain or washing the car!

(So another lie, it was not a small portion that was leaking as he states in his response here to my Complaint, nor did you have to replicate any circumstances. the car leaked IMMEDIATELY in a light rain storm! No special circumstance!) The missing weather stripping can be clearly seen in the video when Jonathan rolls up the power window!

He is even watching the window go up in the video! How can you not see this? (Unfortunately, I didn't notice the missing weatherstripping in the video) He did know the top leaked as well as the window! He just refused to replace the weather stripping, because the complete kit cost over $700 dollars!!

Jonathan then tries to blame the issues with the car on it's age! Saying it is 53 years old and is going to have issues. Well this car was completely restored, everything on this car was replaced with brand new parts when it was restored!

The fact is, the car was restored over 12 years ago! Jonathan knew this. This car has Thousands and Thousands of miles on it since it was restored, but Jonathan did NOT MENTION this in the advertisement at all! The ad dis-eaves you making it sound as if the car was recently restored! This car was well used in the 12 years since it's restoration.

Jonathan's response to the Vintage Air Conditioning System is another mis statement! The air conditioning leaked on you feet in less than 10 minutes!! My mechanic stated to me that the drainage tube was disconnected for quite a while by the water stains. He could tell it was leaking for a while. NOT as Jonathan describes! I can go on and on with all of the excuses Jonathan gave me for all of the issues with the car.

I communicated all of the issues to Jonathan Immediately! I explained to him it would take me a while to find the right mechanic who was qualified to work on a Classic Car. I also told him I had to leave the Country for several weeks for Business.

He said he understood and to contact him once repairs were made. Then when i gave him the total cost of repairs in February of 2019, that is when he told me he would only give me $1000 dollars towards the repairs of the suspension work ONLY. He refused to pay for the leaking weatherstripping.

I told him I thought I was being more than fair by absorbing half the cost including the rental of the Uhaul. Like I said before, after paying $42,000 dollars for a car that is "fully restored" as he advertised, you have the expectation that you will not have to repair the car at all! I didn't break off the communication as Jonathan described.

He made it clear he was not paying anymore than the $1,000 dollars and wanted me to sign a release and agree not to go public with my Complaint! I was not in agreement with this resolution, and was tired of Jonathan's lies that he didn't know ANY of these ISSUES EXISTED. See all the attached emails and pictures as proof.

This is Clearly a case of False Advertising and taking advantage of an Online Consumer! I wish I had had the time to be able to go and inspect the car before I purchased it. But I thought Johnathan was a man of Integrity and I could trust him when he said he went over the car thoroughly, and assured me the car was in perfect condition.

Based on his lack of Integrity, I want full reimbursement of the $2980.00 to settle this dispute

We have sold over 800 classic cars in the past 9 years with 100% positive feedback. We sell all of our vehicles with "No Warranties" and "AS IS" but we are not unreasonable and work with our customers to ensure they are happy with their new investment.

Each listing has 60+ photos from top to bottom, along with a 9-minute walk around and test drive video showcasing the car. This particular vehicle was spectacular and fully restored. Communication was very easy with Steven during the purchase. There were issues with suspension bushings and a Lokar shifter (a small Allen key came loose where the button is held in place causing it to not shift properly) We spoke via text in regards to these small issues and I agreed to repair these items.

In my description, I do state that you can drive cross country and this was true during my ownership. This particular impala was fully restored / documented and had a fuel injected crate motor from GM. I really enjoyed this particular car and drove it around 200 miles total. I brought it to car shows and even drove it in stop and go traffic to run local errands.

I did notice the same pop feeling when you would go onto uneven inclines where the chassis would flex causing the bushing to make a creak, I personally thought it could be due to upgraded parts, it was not detrimental to the drivability and it still tracked, drove and stopped safely at all speeds. Steven did ask me about the Top and I did let him know it was in excellent condition, he asked if it leaks, and when we washed it did not.

This Impala is fully restored but still a 53 year old convertible. I even drove it in the rain one time prior in town with no issues. Steven had more wheel time driving from state to state to really test this beauty out, where he found that the top would drip on the highway as a small portion of as seal was not tight enough, something that I could not replicate unless I drove it in a multitude of situations for several seasons.

To let the reader understand, This is a frame off restored show car, it should not be in the rain, but it can go in the rain. Several Months later I received a discouraging text stating he broke down at a show (a sensor went bad for the fuel injection), The text stated he was renting a truck and trailer to get it home to another state, unfortunately this text came in when I was out of town for business and I did not respond.

(also this is something out of our hands here as it no longer is owned by us and we do not offer out of state roadside assistance on classic cars with no warranties) Steven also discussed that the a/c drain port was leaking inside of the car and "I as the seller apparently knew this" which I did not as it did not leak during our ownership.

When a vintage air system is installed in a classic car there is a small drain tube that releases the water into an extension tube that goes to the exterior of the vehicle for drainage. For the stints of driving I performed it would not build up enough water for me or anyone to notice, but I am sure going from state to state trips one would find out that the drainage tube was loose (this could have rattled loose from driving, and or transport) causing it to drip inside the cabin carpet.

Let me say that again, the tube was loose, not missing it popped off the nipple, The A/C still worked when we tested it but once again we were not doing cross country trips where it would build up enough to leak, something I would never be able to replicate unless I drove it for more than 30 minute stints (which we do not as it is an inventory item, not our personal vehicle).

8 months later Steven sent an email requesting for 2980 in repairs. I kindly offered 1000.00 to repair the items we spoke about the prior year of purchase, the response from Steven was that I was a Liar, and I did not hear back. That was the end of the communication. I guess Steven was not going to accept that, as he did not respond back.

2 weeks later I received 2 notifications from Ripoff report and BBB in regards to this vehicle. I think timely communication is important, and even though it has been 8 months since it was purchased I was willing to work with Steven, even though the contract he signed stated the vehicle was sold "AS-IS" with no warranty. I have attached the contract.

We described the vehicle to the best of our ability, and tried to resolve his minor issues 8 months later by sending a form to sign for release of funds, but never heard back. I hope Steven is enjoying his impala, and I wish he would have communicated in a more timely manner.

Car was also missing weather stripping on window! Water leaks into car immediately

AUTHOR: Steven - (United States)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 13, 2019

Asked Jonathan if the car had any leaks. Assured me there were none. Asked him several times verbally and by text message if the Convertible top leaked. He again assured me it didn't, that he was caught in the rain, and washed the car several times, and no leakes.

The Convertible top leaked as soon as I received the car! The weather stripping was missing 2 inches of rubber on the driverside rear window! Water pours in through missing rubber!! And Jonathan says he didn't notice this???

If you didn't notice this that is totally obvious, then that explains how well you went over the entire car and why it needed $3000 dollars worth of repairs!! See photo's of missing rubber attached.
