I recomend not buying this scanner/ priter because, It installs a group of unneeded gui's on your desktop, it is hard to dispose of them , and when it does finally scan a document it places your important document in an image garden limbo you can't retrieve it from until you pay a ransom of buying more ink from  canon online store.  I do not know why the ink that came with this piece of garbage does not qualify.  I have owned several scanner/ pinters and always once you have gone through the grueling experience of installing them they usually do their job without demanding a further purchase.  They have a smaller footprint in your hard drive, and they allow some manipulation of the document.  All these issues are epic fails in the canon universe.
