I purchased cabinets for the entire house for the custom home I am currently building from this company on March 5, 2008 for $25,350. I have paid $23,375. and had an agreement with Canyon Kitchens that they would get paid the remainder $1,975. upon completion. They still have Crown molding, all of the glass doors, cabinet pull holes, replace sink base bottom, balancing all drawers, and doors still left to do.

Today May 2, 2008 the work was to be completed, but nobody showed up to complete the work. When I called, the owner Joe told me that he would not send the installers to finish till he was paid in full. I told him there was quite a bit of work left and the agreement was that I would pay after the completion. He called me a liar and told me he was liening my property and then hung up on me. I called back and his wife Doris answered and asked who it was, I told her my name and she hung up on me. There is way more than $1,975. left in work to do on the cabinets.

I do not know what to do. I called back again for a fourth time and received the company's answering machine I asked to please not treat me in such an unprofessional manner. I have every intention of paying them AFTER COMPLETION. Joe picked up the phone and said that his materials are in my house and as far as he is concerned the job is complete. I reminded him of all the work still needed to be done and Joe told me that it is between me and the installers. These are HIS installers. He can't make them finish the job, and that HIS part was complete he's liening my property and again he hung up the phone on me.

In my contract with Canyon Kitchens it clearly states they will furnish MATERIAL AND LABOR. I called back again and his wife Doris answered, she said hold on and hung up the phone on me AGAIN. I have never been treated in such a way by anyone, let alone a business that I have a contract with that I have already paid $23,375. Now I am stuck with an incomplete job. Worse is that I just found out today they do not have their Nevada Contractors License and are not members of the better business bureau. AND they have previous complaints. So do not be fooled by them!!!

In the trade and cant believe it

AUTHOR: As You Wish Ltd - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 08, 2009

Hi there,

My name is Jordan Davidson. I have been in the kitchen and bath business for over 15 years. My family has been in the business since 1935. I am a member of NARI (National Association of the Remodeling Industry) and the NKBA (National Kitchen and Bath Association). I have been in business in Las Vegas from 2003 through 2005 as an independent kitchen designer and licensed general contractor. I currently run a showroom in New York City that my family has owned since 1935.
What I would like to impress upon the reader is that there are three sides to every story, and if you read between the lines, you can get to the truth. There is no such thing as a remodeling company or cabinet dealer who will float the payments of cabinets. Our contracts are iron clad and non negotiable. The balance of the cost of cabinetry is always paid upon delivery. It is an industry practice not limited to state or county. Your independent dealer will afford you that consideration unlike big box stores who charge you 100% up front. Anybody who has dealt with Lowes or Home Depot will tell you that.
In my opinion, Canyon Kitchens made the mistake of letting the consumer breach their contract upon delivery for payment at a later date. The consumer states that they are unlicensed. False. They were my competitor . I know they were licensed. The consumer states that they were able to place a lien on their home without documentation. False. It is impossible to do so. In the state of Nevada and Clark County in particular and unlicensed contractor has no legal means in that regard.
Now, if they were unlicensed (which is flagrantly untrue) and the consumer hired them, they had legal recourse as it is criminally felonious to work as an unlicensed contractor. Canyon Kitchens would have fines levied on them by the state and possible jail time. However, this does not seem to be the case.
In truth, it is more than likely that Canyon had sufficient documentation to lien the property from the first breach of contract to recoup their losses on the original cabinet sale. They probably walked when that payment wasn't made and they didn't think they would get paid for the labor either. You don't need to be Columbo to follow that logic based upon the blurbs written here. I only wish I saw it sooner.
This customer is obviously a sad individual who got over their head in a build and has nobody to blame but themselves. If there was any shenanigans played by Canyon, she had every opportunity to call her attorney and file a claim.
Sorry, but this is complete fabrication and is reprehensible on the consumers part.
My advise for Canyon is to Join NARI or the NKBA and to prevent this happening again, modify your contract with a clause that obliges the consumer and yourself to binding arbitration.

The Owners are NOT being honest

After reading what the owners of this company had to say.... Good I am glad their business was hurt by my report because I told the truth. And I hope they never put anyone through what I went through ever again. The owners said in their response to this rip off report that they don't have installers and that they only "recommend them" That is not what they told me Their installers picked up my material from Canyon Kitchens and brought it to my house and started the job but never finished after I had already paid Canyon Kitchens $23k. Everything I said was true about calling and getting hung up on. And not having my job completed. Yes they did lien my property for the remainder of just under $2000. because I would not pay -duh- the job was never completed. It cost me $5600. to have another cabinet company come in and finish Canyon Kitchens unfinished work. What really upsets me was when we sold the house Canyon Kitchens ended up getting paid through escrow for the work that they never finished!!! They NEVER tried to contact me. Since I wrote the first report I have found out that the owners of Canyon Kitchens sub out their installation to piece workers. The reason they can't have their own installers according to the Nevada Contractors Board is because they are not licensed. Look them up on the NCB site = no license... They only have a business license to sell cabinets. And the reason the Better Business Complaint was not investigated really upset me. Canyon Kitchens was not a member of the Better Business Bureau so I received a letter about some BS that they can't investigate but only give a copy of my complaint to the owners. That is why they came up with nothing!!! Not that there was nothing, good try Doris. You decide who to believe. Use them if you want. I just want to share my nightmare with everyone so you can be better informed. But, beware in the state of Nevada anyone can lien your property without proving anything. And when you sell or refi that person gets a check without proving anything... It is ridiculous. You can verify that as well. Call the Clark County Recorder's Office.
Here is the NCB site http://www.nvcontractorsboard.com/
Hopefully after my report they stopped offering installation and are only selling the cabinets, because that is all by law they should be doing. I was the dumb one I never looked them up prior to signing my contract.

#2 REBUTTAL Owner of company

Don't believe everything you read!!!

AUTHOR: Doris - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 01, 2008

My name is Joe the owner of Canyon Kitchens.
To say that I am furious over the negative report on this site about my company would be an understatement!
It seems so unfair that a website can allow someone to trash a company with no real proof being presented to back up their claim.

This customer, Yvette Tippetts contracted for Canyon Kitchens to provide and deliver cabinets to a jobsite, period !

The contract clearly reads that the balance for the cabinetry was due on delivery to the jobsite.

When the cabinetry was ready for delivery, ms. Tippetts was notified that we wanted to set up the delivery, and that the balance owed to Canyon Kitchens was due .

ms. Tippets told us that she did not have the balance due, and that she had to wait for the next release of funds from her bank in order to pay us.
she also told us that the bank would not release any funds until the cabinets were installed!

Against my better judgement, we delivered the cabinets to the jobsite, trying to acomodate this customer (and also feeling that she had us over a barrel!)
Well, after a few calls we finally got a partial payment of the balance that was due on the delivery of the cabinets.

We, after many calls and attempts to collect the balance finally put a lein on the
property. ( we later found out that several other trades had to do the same because of non- payment)

At no time did Canyon Kitchens contract to install the cabinets.
Our business license is for design and sales only.We do however have several installers that we recomend, and the customer can contract with them independently.

The thing that bothers me the most is that when people look up my business name the first thing they see is a rip-off report associated with this website...
I have presented all my documentation on this matter to the dept. of better business, and the have deemed Ms. Tippetts claim invalid !!!

The other thing that burns me is that we can not get this negative report removed from this site !!! they make it perfectly clear that they can not be sued because of any false or negative reports they list on this site.

I will be more than happy to present any documentation regarding this matter to anyone who wishes to see it.

I have my complete answer to the dept of better business available for review.
I'ts a shame that in this poor economy how one dishonest customer can make it even harder for a small business to survive.
I invite anyone to call me personally to discuss this matter.

SHAME ON YOU YVETTE TIPPETS FOR LYING ABOUT CANYON KITCHENS!

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

This customer was the one who "ripped off " not only canyon kitchens but several other trades that worked on her house.

AUTHOR: Doris - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, December 01, 2008

My name is Joe the owner of Canyon Kitchens.
I have been in the cabinet business for 35 years, and have never had a customer as dishonest and as hurtfull as Yvette Tippets.
She not only filed a false report with this website, but also with the dept. of consumer affairs.
I presented all of my documentation to the dept. of consumer affairs and after examining the paperwork, her complaint was deemed invalid.
My contract clearly states that the complete balance for the materials was due on delivery to the jobsite.
When the time came for delivery,Ms. Tippets said that she did not have the money
and that she had to wait for the next bank draw in order to pay me. She also told
me that she could not get the draw from the bank untill the cabinets were installed!
Well against my better judgment. I delivered the cabinets to the jobsite and agreed to wait for my payment,
After many calls, I finally received a partial payment towards the balance that was actually due on delivery.
The end result was that i had to put a lien on the property for the balance owed to me.
I found out that several other trades were not paid by ms.Tippets, and finally after 4 months of waiting, a title company contacted me, and I was paid.
I know that my business was hurt by this derogatory report, and there is no way to re-coupe any losses. It seems to me that web pages like this could really do
harm to small companies like mine. They make it perfectly clear that they are not
responsible for the content that anyone posts.
