I opened my Capital One Gold Mastercard account in December 2000.

I acknowledge that a few years before I had gotten into a lot of credit trouble due to my lack of credit experience. virtually all of that happend in 1997.

It is now 2004, Seven years after all that. I have kept my Capital One Gold Mastercard account in good standing, I have never been late, I have constantly got my payments in on time, and I have never been over the limit, a measeley $200, yet they still charge me $6/mo service charge, whether I have a balance or not.

I have asked them on several occassions, both written and by telephone to raise my credit limit, and to discontinue the $6/mo fee. They have told me that my account is ineligible for a limit increase each time, the most recent time I spoke to them by phone, the representative told me that the $6/mo fee was for maintainence.

I honestly believe this to be One Big Red Lie, as I have been on their website and have seen several cards that had no fee, or an incredibly low annual fee. I agree they have a right to be a little leary of my less than perfect credit history, but it is improving, and is only slightly below the national average as I write this.

I know the most logical thing to do is to close my account, but I also understand that I should use caution, as closing some accounts may actually harm ones credit score. I'm trying, and succeeding in rebuilding my credit rating, in hopes that it will soon be good enough for me to purchase a motorcycle. I also don't think that closing my account will send a strong enough message, as the limit is so little.

Here's what you need/should do!!

Hey David, I used to work there and they say it is a maintance fee, well its true but they could waive it if they choose. For the accounts they find profitable they would sometimes reduce that monthly fee to $3. a month therefore cutting the annual rate to 36.00. I have offered this to customers and they took it.

Honestly you have probably rebuilt your credit to a point that they are willing to keep charging as long as you are willing to keep paying.

Search around I bet you will find a better credit card and higher limit by just simply applying. They will take advantage of you if your willing. They are charging to help there bottom line. If you don't know most credit card transaction/when you use your credit card capital one receives a kick back from Visa Intl. This in turn helps bottom line.

I have worked from regular customer service to collections to retention. retention is those people you talk to if you ask to close your account the customer service rep will transfer you to them. if they don't transfer you capital one has determined, you are not profitable and want you to close and you are is not even being serviced by actual capital one employees they are outsourcers working for capital one.

whether in Costa Rica, Canada, India, or Phillipines. They have since taken our jobs and that is reason cap one is laying off 1100 employees over next 6 months.

End of August started the layoff 350 people lost there jobs to outsourcers we as associates help train take our jobs. PLease pass this to any one that might have a credit card/Loan/ or autoloan with them.
