Capital one rips you off!!! I was warned not to get there credit card but I just didn't listen. They wait until you are at the end of your credit line and then no matter how early you send you bill in (8 days early is when I sent mine in and they only ask you to send it in 5 days early) they will wait until the day after it was do to stamp it and charge you with a late fee that will put you over the limit so they will in turn charge you with an over the limit fee!!!! I called them and told them that I wanted a copy of the envelope with the postmark on it so I know when it got there, and they told me that it is a different place that processes the payment and they have no way of contacting them and they don't have a number I can reach them at ( bull S@#T), so basically they screwed me, and not only me but at least 6 other people I know has had the exact same thing happen to them!!! RIP OFF!!!!!!! Dawn Galloway, New Jersey

What to do....

AUTHOR: anti - ()

POSTED: Saturday, July 13, 2002

27% of credit card companies revenue from FEES. So they are very eager to fine you as much as they can. This is so profitable, that they do it despite being fined many times by different agencies.

What to do? I have three ideas:

a/ Leave them ASAP - unfortunately if you have outstanding balance it could be impossible
b/ Register for their on-line account service
(capitalone.com click on the upper left corner on: Manage Your Card Account - but read the terms)
Meanwhile Capital One will not charge for this, but your bank might. (Usually around $5-10/month. It is cheaper than the $29 late fee etc.)
c/The easiest, cheapest way: send your letter as Certified Mail. It is only $2.30, but the USPS keeps record (for 2 years) of the mailing and delivery date, and you can get a receipt to prove when you mailed it. The destination post office can prove the date of delivery.

Usually banks do not play (as much) with people who use Certified Mail...
