My Capital One credit card was copied and used 2 weeks later to make a $643.44 purchase at a grocery store 25 miles away. When I noticed the charges on my statement I reported it to Capital One Fraud Department. They TEMPORARILY credited my account, when they received the receipt from the grocery store they put the charges back on my account and "closed the case"

They sent me a copy of the receipt to review. The signature looks NOTHING like my signature. I sent them a copy of my driver license and another document that has my legal signature on it. Mind you they DID NOT close the account number down and issue a new number, so other charges COULD also be fraudulently placed on my account.

Now they are sending me "more questions" via snail mail regarding the reported fraud, in the meantime they continue to charge me interest on the disputed charge amount.

They are idiots, they just keep asking for more information. What more do they need to know? I was at work when the charges were made, I don't charge groceries, nor do I shop for groceries 25+ miles from my home. I live alone, so it would take me awhile to eat $643.44 dollars worth of groceries. I am closing my accounts and NEVER holding a card with the name "Capital One" on it again.

Fraud

AUTHOR: some1 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 05, 2011

Some of this is not true,

why are you sending information not requested?

and the paper with questions is called the affidavit which is generated when the report was filed. that is containing all those questions. And is required if you dont want to pay someone elses purchases

by the way i worked there for 3 years, so almost all processes are pretty much fair inside fraud dpt.

all you need to do is follow instructions.

Please tell us if the charges were indeed removed or rebilled.

because with all the information at the end of the report any agent will easily identify this details and therefore credit the account and any fee or finance charge accrued during the investigation (this is disclosed on every call reporting fraud), so technically the customer will not be assesed incorrect interest for any confirmed fraud trans.

If you dont believe me call capital one and request to any agent to read the ''lost stolen disclosure''. all this problem the lady had could be easily prevented.

This is not big deal, too bad that I cannot do nothing for you right now. :(

any question regarding fraud, just let me know!

Make sure you file a police report regarding the theft of your card number.

File a police report immediately if you have not already. The police report will come in handy for you in disputing this charge. Keep it for further reference in case Capital One continues to do nothing to credit your account for the fraudulent charge.

Make sure all of your communication with Capital One is in writing and sent with certified mail. This could come back to haunt you in the future if Capital One sells off this fraudulent "debt"to a collections agency, so keep all of your documentation.

Look up fraud reporting proceedures on line to make sure you have covered all of your bases. Good luck to you.

Copied?

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

You saying it was used two weeks after it was "copied" is a very strange statement. How do you knowwhen itwas "copied"? When you knew it was copied how come you didn't call Capital One and report it BEFORE it was used.

Next it does not make much sense for a person to go through all of this effort only to buy Groceries(although it was $643 worth) but then nothing else. Yes crooks are dumb, but a trip to your local Supermarket is not typical.

Did you ever ask them to cancel that card and send you a new one? Believe it or not there are people where this would happen and if the bank just cancels the card they would be absolutly livid because they have automatic charges coming off of the card. The point is if you want the card cancelled YOU have to make sure they do it.

You state that they "closed the case". Well if they closed the case why are they sending you "more questions"? I wonder what those questions are that they are asking.
