On June 26th I brought my 2002 VW Cabrio - which I bought in 2004 in to carmax for service as the check engine light was on.
I was told that the codes that came up pointed to 2 sensors in the transmission.

Carmax advised because they were in the transmission they would need to send out as they did not do transmission. I agreed and said as long as I got an estimate first they said fine.

On June 27th I get a phone call from Mike from Goldcoast transmission I say ok carmax says it's two sensors he says he thinks there's something else with the transimission - he says 350.00 to take the transmission out and take a look, I say fine.

next day I get a call from Gold Coast - who tells me 3300.00 for a new transmission - we say can't pay that right now - we'll take the car back - he says it will cost us 400.00 to put transmission back - we say no he quoted 350.00 - now my transmission is in the trunk of my vehicle and even though I drove the car to carmax and carmax drove the car to the transmission shop I now have 358.00 a month car payments for a car that doesn't run.

The owner of Gold Coast called me - and the man was a neanerthal - rude condicending - said he was gonna try to make things right - and he would charge me 2600.00 I said no -he told me I knew my transmission was bad that's why I brought it to him - I reminded him no I didn't bring it to him I brought it to Carmax.

Basically - they are holding my car for ransome - I expect when I get an estimate that the car is giving back to me in the same condition in which I sent it.

Carmax is saying they are not responsible for any of this and the Service Manager has said - she doesn't think she can do anything for me - because I spoke to Gold Coast when they called me - of course I wonder who gave them the number to call me - you got it Carmax

I've asked Carmax twice once on 7/4 and on 7/2 to get my car back from gold coast transmission - and yet today - I get a nasty voicemail from Gold Coast that my car is sitting there for 9 days and now I owe them 50.00 a day for storage.

By the way Carmax also told me I needed a new front axle and 4 new tires (I just bought new tires in March)

And by the way - bad transmission/broken front axle

I bought my car in 2004 with 24,000 miles on it and today it has 48,000 miles on it...................how sad - so now my car is sitting at Gold Coast Transmission - with the transmission in the trunk.

Gold coast Transmission update

AUTHOR: Joanne - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 18, 2008

Thanks for telling your story we went to the Dept of consumer affairs and because we did not pay for the work - they could not help us - the car was towed back to CarMax - and Carmax said they could not do anything and would not release the car until we paid the 750.00 - 350.00 plus storage that Gold Coast wanted

Anyway - we did a voluntary re-possesion on the car because we didn't know what else to do and at the time didn't have the money to fix it. - Plus we owed 7000.00 on the car still. We tried to work to Carmax to no avail -

Well anyway we have heard nothing from Gold Coast or from Car Max - we are in a wait and see mode -Once we hear from them we will take it from there.

Good luck to you they Gold coast is a peice of work and you've gotta wonder how many more people they've pulled the same stuff on.

welcome to the Gold Coast rip off company

AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, July 20, 2008

I am in the middle of a bad experience with Gold Coast also. I brought my 1988 Nissan ZX in to them less than a year ago, they put a re furbished transmission in and charged me over $ 2300. Well back in May it started to slip. Took about 2 weeks to really make me wonder if I had a problem. I called them on a Friday afternoon to ask questions. The girl took my name, number, and said someone would call me back in a few minutes. Said they were busy getting cars out for the weekend. Guess what? No call. Monday it was really getting bad, so I called AGAIN. She looked up my name, and said I had brought it in last August, and it was still covered by the warrenty. Well your friend Mike the manager informed me it wasnt, but I couldnt drive it because it had no fluid in it when they took a look.

They took my $ 350 for their take a look service and said that I need a new transmission. Mike then said that the seal originally installed was "defective" . This caused the leaking fluid to slowly drip out. I payed for a new transmission last year with new seals. He was very difficult with me also. A real people person. I had no choice really but to let them put another transmission in it, and explore other options after I had my car back. Which I am! He also said he would take $ 500 off my $2300 bill. Just like he did with you. What a kind fellow. So I reported them to the Better Business Bureau which I would suggest you do. They didnt budge in their first response , I had asked for half my money back. They stuck to the story only to say the car was over the 12,000 mile warrenty. I plan on taking them to small claims court and ask for the full amount back. I have some great damaging proof against them. There are more details to this case, but I dont want the whole world to know what else this manager Mike did and said to and about me. But,,, they will pay dearly very soon. Please let me know how your dealings are going with them Joanne.
They are gonna suffer a sudden drop in business and wonder what happened,,,

it's against the law - that's where the rip off is

AUTHOR: Joanne - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, July 11, 2008

being your from Texas - your probably not familiar with Florida state law -
so it is a rip off whether you think so or not - doesn't matter how old the car is if you choose not to do the work they are required by state law to put the car back to the same condition it was brought to them in

The Florida Motor Vehicle Repair Act was created to assist consumers with matters relating to motor vehicle repair shops

You can cancel repairs if they exceed the estimate and the repair shop must reassemble the vehicle, unless it is unsafe to drive. The shop may charge you for tear-down and reassembly only if you were given notice of that charge on the estimate.

Where's the ripoff?

4 years ago you bought a used car which is now at least 6 years old. You okayed an estimate to just "remove the transmission and look" you didn't mention putting it back in. You could have towed the car with the tranny in the trunk to another shop for another opinion at only $350. By trying to find someone else to blame you started incurring fees. Now they probably should have told you about those. But I don't see where your complaint is going to go.
