Scam Alert!  I booked a cruise using my Barclays Carnival card.  They tell you on the ship tat you can redeem the points for on board credit and so forth.  So I booked the cruise in April and tried to redeem the points for my cruise in July.  I was told I had to wait till closer to the cruise date..15 days before the cruise date to redeem the points.  I waited till then and was told by someone in the Philippines that now I had waited too long to redeem them and could not use them.  I could not use them for statement credit either, because I had paid off the card. What?????  So the 3000 points which I was planning to use for stuff on the ship are useless.

I will be sure to make it a point to place myself near any of the credit card sellers on the ship and tell people what a true scam it is.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned!

Carnival Fun Points are great!

AUTHOR: Rose - ()

POSTED: Saturday, February 01, 2014

I felt bad for the man who had difficulty using his "Fun Points" but maybe he did not understand the program. I have used fun points to pay for flights, hotels, cruises and just recently, "Best Buy" gift certificates which I used to "buy" an iPhone.

For ship credit or for any travel related uses you have to pay for the purchases first with your Mastercard as well as have to completed the travel. Thus any purchases you make on board with your Sail and Sign card (as long as you use your Carnival MC to pay for them) can be reimbursed as credit on your credit card bill. When these charges show up on your bill you can then redeem and get a refund to your account.

If shipboard credits were promised you should have made sure you got something in writing. Keep contacting them frequently to be sure you get the credit. If you are supposed to be getting shipboard credits they should be on your receipt when you book your cruise. I don't know why you were told to wait but I would have repeatedly called as I often do when booking a cruise. If I see a better price or offer, Carnival will often meet the same price. We always get shipboard credit as we own 100 shares of Carnival Stock. Many travel agencies (and Carnival has some of the same offers) offer shipboard credit to get your business; but they are usually a part of the original booking package.
