Carpetland USA consumer rip-off

My experience was with Carpetland, but no matter where you buy carpet, watch out! A current sneaky tactic is to only post the price of the carpet per square foot. This makes any price look low, but remember you have to multiply that by 9 to get the price per square yard.

If you are paying more than 25 dollars per square yard of installed carpeting, you are probably paying too much. My sleazy salesman deliberately entered a wrong (lower) rate on my initial contract and made it look like a computer error. On the final contract, after they came out to measure, magically the higher rate per square foot again appeared.

Dont buy the cheap rebond type of pad for the carpet... luckily, I wasnt offered that... a lot of places do sell only rebond. It looks like old chopped up padding with different colors. Oh, and be sure to measure the area yourself. They overmeasured so much on mine that I ended up with an extra rooms-worth of carpeting! Luckily, my resourceful wife was able to put together the pieces nicely and now she has a carpeted laundry room.
