Cascade Bicycle Club M.J. Kelly Chilly Hilly, Seattle, Washington

In my line of work, I communicate with several hundred people annually. Without fail, the most memorable person I encounter all year is M.J. Kelly, Director of Communications and Marketing for Cascade Bicycle Club.  Unfortunately, my experiences with her are notable not for her professionalism or amiability, but for her hostility, condescension, unpunctuality, disorganization and arrogance.  She is notoriously slow to provide requested materials and return calls or emails. If I could avoid any future interaction with this person, I would do so, but that is not an option with my current career.

It is remarkable that Kelly has chosen a job as the key public contact for her employer, as she clearly resents being contacted.  Based on her previous work as an editor and writer, perhaps Kelly incorrectly believed that a position in communications and marketing would be a reasonable crossover.

I have spoken to professional peers about their experiences with Kelly, and I am far from alone. Stories about odd and unpleasant exchanges with her abound. Indeed, others have tried to bypass her by contacting other people in Cascade directly, e.g. if the matter is related to a class offered at Cascade, calling the class instructor directly. Unfortunately, when Kelly finds out this has occurred--and she will--she gets very angry. To date, however, it does not appear that she has considered why others would attempt to avoid her.
