first i was contacted by capital acquisitions and they demanded over $5,000 on voluntary repo on car. this was in 1995. told that if i gave them money that day they would settle for small amount.
about a month or so ago i was contacted by cavalry porfolio services and was told that i owed them over $8,000 for the same car. i called them and told them i was contacted by capital for the same thing. how could that be. the lady was not very nice. i refused to give either of them anything. have not heard from them since.
these types of companies need to be stopped.

I feel your pain about these companies. They are total scum and bottom feeders that buy very old debt and try to con the person that made a mistake years ago to pay for it. Bottom line is if it was from 95 then the SOL has expired on this debt. You might want to check your credit report as some of these companies re-age these accounts and that will hurt you in the future since they can only legally stay on your report for 7 years from the DOLA. Check out a couple good credit sites like http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/forumdisplay.php?s=bbceea454295b2efca3363aa559a4775&forumid=3
and you should find a few letters that you can send to them to get them off your back.
I hope this helps you as I know first hand they can be a pain to deal with.
