We purchased a Cavco in 1998 and were assured we had a one year warranty.  Within that year we found out that none of the walls are on joists.  With a cathedral ceiling, the trusses all support the roof.  In the kitchen I have 2 short walls, the ceiling cracks if I put anything heavy in the kitchen cupboards.  It's been 4 times now.  The 4 drawers in the cupbord by the stove all fell in to the back because they were built so cheaply.  Cavco worked on both in May 1998,  The serviceman, Larry Luperica, was appalled at the uneven joists in the kitchen and told my daughter they werebetween 5 and 5 3/4 under the kitchen. 

Last month, (February2012)my husband put full 2x2s in the back of that cupboard and made small notches in them and screwed the runners in.  Then he put 3rods under each drawer to hold the sagging bottoms.  He also reglued the faces on as they were pulling loose.  The wood in the cupboards has a high formaldahyde content and should be recoated with a non-urea based clear sealer.  The paper has a tendency to peel allowing formaldahyde emissions.
 
Cavco's own serviceman suggested to the state in Sept 1999, that they reseal our formaldahyde subfloor, and put wonderboard throughout our entire home, but Cavco replaced three cracked bedroom floors and the master bathroom lino.  They replaced three rooms of carpet.  We got a lawyer in 2000 and tried to adjust the price of the home and Cavco filed a third party suit on Clayton because they sold it to us.  We were offered $1000 after we gave them an estimate of $4,900 to just ladder block the walls.  Again servicemen came out and put in a few boards and taped the bottom shut.

In 2004, I purchased an acre of land and moved the home in June of 2005.  The mover bounced the home on the other side under the kitchen and the insulation came loose and wiring fell out by the yards.  I almost fainted when I saw Cavco built my home out of cheap pine, all joists were stamped HEMLOCK FIR #2.  Home Depot says Cavco hauls it into Arizona.  Larry had notched 16 of them all the way back to the 26th joist in the dining room and put wedges under as well as 8 ft 4x4s and squeezed the short joists up with big lag bolts splintering the already knotholed weakened joists.  Several had twisted sideways and 16 of 26 had to be reinforced.  I again filed a complaint and I purchased two bundles of Douglas Fir 2x5s.  Cavco came out an put several 4ft patches on before I asked him to cut the 10 footers in half giving me another foot over the Ibeams.  He put about a dozen doubled 5 ft stringers on and glued them to the existing notched joists.  My husband had to replace several of them as he had them crooked and used one 6" making another high bump in the floor.  The replaced carpet gave my grandson asthma while he stayed here from 1998 to 2003.  He's now better. 

I now have an estimate to cover the subfloors and redo them for $8000.  I have a HUD hearing courtesy of Raul Grijalva Monday March 19th at 8 AM.  Come on over if you have a gripe.
