Ripoff Report, You Rock, But You Can Do Better Than This

CBSC is only one of the many many names this rogue collection racket goes by -- all of them (I think) aliases for CBC Inc.

They don't just operate out of Columbus Ohio, as is reported here. They have regional offices in ten different locations across the country. Thus far, I am being hounded by two of these offices, but their constant calls and text messages only began recently so I'm expecting I'll keep getting hammered quicker than I can block their numbers.

Under CBCS, Ripoffreport has 9 pages -- 225 complaints -- to date! Why aren't all these reports being consolidated so you can appreciate the magnitude of the fraud this company is committing? Also, why not create a form that enables us to list each aka and corresponding website and contact information so the connection so that the consolidation is automatic?

Early on during this harassment, a CBCS rep tried to tell me that I owed several thousand dollars on a Discover card. I have never had a Discover Card, nor has anyone I have ever lived with. When I informed them of this, I was asked for my SS# and other information "so we can correct our files."

So, I stopped taking their calls and have been trying to ignore their text messages. At first, these calls were only being routed through my regular number ... because it's a recent number I was assigned by boostmobile (prepaid plan) I thought perhaps the debt belonged to the whoever had the number before me.

However, shortly after that, I started getting calls on my Google Voice forwarding number as well. so now I have to presume that I am their intended target. In Google Voice, I have the ability to block their 800 numbers. Not so with my Boostmobile voicemail.

These representatives never leave messages. They hang up immediately.

They're tying up my phone during a time when I'm unemployed and need my line to be open. Moreover, I'm now beginning to suspect that these might be phishing calls.

Very foolishly, I have been revealing not just my GVoice but regular number, each time I fill out an online job app, and these numbers are also on my resume. Some of these jobs are posted on Craigslist and I am beginning to fear they don't exist and are only listed to bait hard-luck saps like me into revealing their personal information.

I'm not sure what to do about these people. As soon as I'm done with this report, I'll be filing one with SpamCop. And with Google, too, because the text messages are being routed through the google app engine (desksms.appspotmail.com) ... I've seen lots of complaints online about spam from appspotmail addresses.

The fellow here who suggested calling their numbers in order to block their phone bank took a lot of heat for it, but it seems as if going through appropriate channels does nothing. Really, these people are terrorizing us -- denial of service attacks would be too good for them (I have no idea where those come from) but DOS attacks harm the web host as well, so I'm going to try to contact each of their web hosts individually to alert them that this spam goes through their servers (but there are an awful lot of websites and of course, it takes five minutes to switch from one host to another).

And hey folks -- apologies for how long and boring this is, but I don't have time or energy for anything better than stream of consciousness right now. Besides which RipoffReport and other such sites already have so much info on this company, it's take your ticket and wait.

How to get the monkey off your back

AUTHOR: KimmyKickingBooty - (United States of America)

What has worked for me when I was being harrassed is to advise that you are legally obilgiated to inform them that is a recorded line that is admissable in legal matters. You have know that this a scam and have forewarded this number and all related information to the Better Business Bearu, the Federal Trade Commission and the federal do not call registery. Never call this number again. They never called me again. I downloaded an app that does record calls but i never had to use it after I started using this speech as soon as they call.

Dispute letter

AUTHOR: PabloDiegoJose - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, September 14, 2012

I'm not sure how this is a complaint just because you're getting calls.  However, it can be quickly resolved with a dispute letter to them.  You claim it's not yours, so write a letter to them to request validation and send it CMRRR.  Put it in your own words.  You'll get the proof, and hopefully will be able to take care of it.

Also -- hooray! -- if you happen to have boost mobile like me, I just found out you can block text messages from any number by putting 9999 in the send field and then in the body, block 1234567890
(that's the number you're blocking). You just hit send and you get a confirmation that it's blocked.

And if you're a Verizon user, it gets better! There's a mechanism to block up to five numbers from calling. That one you'll have to look up.
