Tim Smith at Cedar Creek Farms or Smith Family Farms also sold me a sick puppy on Monday, April 20, 2009. We live only an hour away so we drove to pick up the puppy on that Monday night and he brought her outside on the front porch to let us see her. She was very small and I asked about the picture that was posted online and he said well they look much bigger online and he tells everyone that. Then I asked about her eating habits and he said that she was smaller than her brother and that she wasn't eating as much as him. Then we left and went home. She didn't really act normal that night because she was in a new place but the next day she started to be energetic and didn't eat anything. She would only drink water. Then the very next day she starting to throw up a white foamy liquid and move her head from side to side. Then we contacted the vet and they said to take her in so we did and her temperature was at 103.9 and was sure that she probably had the parvo virus. She had to stay over night which costed us $302. Then she was getting better so we brought her home the next afternoon. She ate one time and then didn't eat anymore. We took her back to the vet on the following Saturday morning and they said she then had coccidia which is a parasite in her lining of her intestines. They gave us medicine for that and that cost was $40. Then on Monday she was not moving, just laying around, her eyes started to roll into the back of her head so we took her back to the vet and then rushed her to the emergency vet where she had to stay overnight in an incubator. That costed us $189. Then we had to take her back to the regular vet so that they could observe her. Now today they are saying that she is still not eating, has bloody diarrhea, isn't drinking water, and is not very alert. They are giving her until the end of the day and if she isn't any better we will probably have to put her to sleep. I have contacted Tim Smith 3 times and not once has he responded back to me. We have no spent 530.00 in vet bills and we are not done. We have only had our puppy for 3 weeks and we will have spent more than we paid for her and she hasn't had a single shot. Research that I have done and that the vet has done says that these viruses take 13 days to come out usually so that if the symptoms started to show before the 13 days of having the animal then they had it at the time they were purchased. I have had to sit and watch my poor little puppy, Bella who had dropped to only 1lb go through this pain and take all of this medicine just because this man doesn't know what he is doing. Please do not buy animals from this man because it seems that I am not this only one that this has happened to. I am not going to sit back and do nothing about it because its wrong and cruel! If anyone else feels the same way and would like to contact me please feel free to do so.

It seems you had an outbreak of parvo. There are too many reports with the pups being sold too close together. Does it happen on the way home or shortly after the new owner takes possession? Yes. Often. But not usually in numbers. That indicates a common exposure and at the seller's. You deal in pup's you risk parvo. It happens. No matter who you are, no matter what precautions you take, no matter how well you take care of your dogs and pups.
It is also very concerning that you are apparently unaware that Tamiflu has been being used to good results as a part of the treatment for a few years now.
Can you clarify the guarantee remark? I know plenty of people that have a guarantee that spans longer than 48 hours so saying NO ONE does it is a stretch at a minimum. It is in fact considered a warning sign if there is no guarantee or it is less than a year minimum (many are even longer) concerning life threatening/debilitating defects. Were you speaking about viruses only? Under what circumstances do you stand behind the dogs you sell and when is something your responsability? Do you breed the dogs you sell or do you sell other's dog's or both?

LIFETIME WARRANTY?

I sold this lady a puppy, which was a solid healthy pup, she emails exactly 1 week later to say that the pup was sick, somewhat like a heads up. I of course monitored the other pup a male, which i still have, and he still healthy and solid. he second email, she told me she was treating the pup and the vet was using a human flu med?? ( and now we find out the pup died, wonder why??) NO ONE will offer a health guarantee against parvo for more than 48 hours. It can be picked up at pet smart, the grocery store, the vets office and etc. a single shot offers NO PROTECTION thats why they are given as a series of 3, stating that the pup had never had a shot is simply a LIE. I have no idea how pups are treated or mistreated once they leave, but i must be doing something right if they are fine for 8 weeks while they live with me. I do hate to read about a pup dying, or getting sick, i do offer a health guarantee, but it cant be for 1 week or 1 year or a lifetime. most people fail to tell you what the pup was subjected to after purchase, rough handling, neglect, and living in an environment that has parvo in it.

Since my last post this afternoon my puppy has passed away!

AUTHOR: Mharton - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, May 06, 2009

After posting this earlier in the day I got a call from the vet that said my puppy had stopped breathing and her heart wasn't beating. We only had her for 3 weeks and 2 days. I have been reading over the paperwork that is given out and it makes me sick to my stomach what is happening to puppies. The worst part of all is that she didn't even have a chance from the beginning coming from there. I really hope that people read these articles before buying from this place or you too will be left with a very expensive vet bill and a broken heart.
